Unnecessary is the least harsh adjective I can come up with for this. What are Luke Wilson and Co. doing in this KidsTV-type crap? And: what the hell happened when the girl mysteriously saved Logan Lerman (a magical owl subplot got cut, perhaps?)!!

As an adult, this movie is ass. As a child, I was OBSESSED with Cody Linley.

A family-film with a solid message about environmental vs economical priorities - and the necessity of "eco-terrorism" (not the corporate definition of that term). Problems like a few overly stereotypical grown-ups, some witless attempts at humour and a rather thin plot make this less smooth. *Preview*: #14#, story, Brie.L!/7, (actors).

I didn't give a hoot about Hoot, especially by the end. The characters didn't make me care, the story bored me, and even the owls, whose survival is the driving force behind the majority of the story, left me disinterested. The acting was poor, and the only real redeeming part of the film was the soundtrack. For younger audiences, it does preach a solid message, so if that's something that appeals to parents or babysitters, then put Hoot on and then go do something more interesting for a while.

If I was in the position they were in I would just join the workers and kill the owls.

They tried to make me feel sorry for the owls, but, lets face it, I don't give a hoot.

It's not that we expect great things, but after seeing other recent films based on books aimed at young adults, like Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a film like Hoot is the sort of movie that feels like it has no real business being up there along with them on the big screen, as if what was meant to be a Disney Channel Original Movie somehow ended up getting the push for a major motion picture release.
