Jason Statham 18: Homefront is a decent addition to the Jason Statham movie series. For fans of the series, we know precisely what to expect and we get it. Which is pretty much my statement on all of these films. They are ideal for when the mood strikes, and Statham has a few decent fights. Franco has had too many charming roles lately, though, so I couldn't take him seriously as a bad guy. Every time he was on screen I thought "Oh it's james franco. he's such a charming man.".. and lost tension

A charmless Jason Statham plays an ex-undercover NARC whose quiet rural life is turned upside down when a group of psychotic tweaker hillbillies figure out who he is. I saw this knowing absolutely nothing about it, and I kept waiting for something interesting to happen...what I got was a setup that takes forever and pays off with a couple of brief fights and shootouts that were clearly edited in a blender. Statham and Franco both sleepwalk through this disappointment.

There's never any question about who the good guys and the bad guys are, as the script and the visuals both hammer it in (Exhibit 1: movie poster at left). So, of course, it's by the book the entire way. But for that type of movie, its emotionally engaging, exciting, and well-acted. The mood of the town really comes out, and the bond between the father and daughter is pretty powerful. Above average for a straighforward actioner.

Perhaps unusual for a Statham-starring action flick, I think the plot is actually pretty good here. I enjoyed the series of unfortunate decisions and the way things kept escalating and escalating, from schoolyard tussle to machine gun warfare. However, the action itself isn't too great, and the movie is ultimately totally gutless. (SPOILER FOR REAL: Not a single "good" character dies in the entire film.)

Just another Statham movie showcasing just how bad ass we should think he is. Generic, predictable fluff, but entertaining enough.

Could have been better, could have been worse. I feel like Franco just wants to be seen as much as possible. Usually bankable there are faults in this film bigger than him. It averts disaster level but Statham is just the furthest thing from believable and he often hurts the credibility of the film he is in.

Sylvester Stallone finished his espresso one morning, then retreated to his office, knowing that he would be spending many solitary hours at his keyboard, tapping out the best script he possibly could. The result has a competent structure for this sort of thing, although many of the details make little sense. Awfully filmed. Statham tries. Ends by setting the scene for a sequel, although there is reason to doubt that Franco or Ryder (how does she pick her roles?) would agree to return for that.

Fairly average Statham movie. nothing really of note aside for the fact that had they made the main character less skilled it probably would have been more tense and thrilling.

While it's a by the numbers action flick, it's one of Statham's better recent outings. You're not going to see anything new here. Fairly predictable as usual. They use his character's daughter as a way to heighten the tension of the plot. I enjoyed it for what it was. If you enjoy Statham kicking ass and taking names, Homefront is for you. 3.5 STARS

Not good by any means, but a better than average (for the genre) cast makes this doable. You won't see anything new here, but its solid mindless action.

You get what you pay for: Jason Statham kicking ass and breaking bones. It's devoid of one liners which really drag down the final product. Wish it was more silly and fun but it's just a decent action flick with solid performances from all involved.

Homefront could have been another Jason-Statham-beats-everyone-up movie, but its slow build and surprisingly layered characters elevates it slightly above that. In fact, the pure action the concludes the film is actually the least entertaining part about it. All of the build-up and character and town exploration is far more worth our time. A strong location and good characters makes Homefront an exciting movie.

It deserves good credit because, though very simple, the plot is well executed. Small, "conservative" town that doesn't accept a newcomer that takes no shit, but that suddenly accepts him because he wants no trouble. I'm alright with that! Franco is, like in "Springbreakers", a convincing junky/dealer, while Winona looks like she was born the way she's portrayed (absolutely no pun intended). But Jason is the star. What Vin Diesel and even my darling The Rock are trying to do, Jason has mastered.

Quite a cliched and predictable script. Nothing too exciting as a drama or action movie, as it doesn't really live up to something like Face/Off. Regardless, Statham is fine and the rest of the cast is functional, and it still leaves some entertaining scenes despite the terrible direction during fight scenes. This is an obvious Stallone baby.

More or less on a par with "The Last Stand" but less disappointing. Instead of watching this movie, you could always build a house of cards. Only, instead of cards, use slices of untoasted white bread. It's fun! Or... it's at least as much fun as watching Homefront.

The one positive comment I can make about this movie: the locale they picked for the horse rides was just beautiful. Everything else about this movie was just...terrible (I'm not feeling particularly creative tonight). I watched this move simply to populate the lower end of my scored movies.

Homefront is one of Jason Statham's better outings in recent years. It's still nothing groundbreaking by any means though. It looks and feels like a straight to DVD release and content wise it's familiar territory. But to be fare for the most part I was surprisingly entertained and it's not all bad. Jason Statham gives his usual husky hard man performance but his fight scenes are a good enough excuse to watch this film. James Franco is half decent too. It does exactly what it says on the tin.

What to say, it's Jason Statham doing that thing that Jason Statham does in all his movies. You just know that when he's in the film someone is fixin' to get a can of whoopass opened up on them. It's not an exceptional film but it is mildly entertaining.

This was filmed close to my home, which made it exciting to watch. I always love a good Jason Statham movie. The rest of the cast is also great with Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth and James Franco. Once you get past all the fun familiar faces, you realize this is just another Jason Statham movie...

Ex-cop Statham stumbles across his sleepy Southern town's seedy bad element, and uh-oh. Except that this goddamn thing has been almost completely slurped of thrills, excitement, and most of the basic B-movie pleasures that you'd think would come attached to such a premise. Cut out the cussing, and this thing's a PG-13 for sure, and let me re-state that: Jason Statham has made a cops-versus-druglords movie that contains PG-13 levels of action. Can movies not offer base fun anymore?

The director knew what he was doing and the editing was not bad either. James Franco was good, but Winona Ryder a big let down. But the worst was Syl's script. A solo lobo with a daughter. He was rewriting Rambo story.

Statham's second good film in a year? (Hummingbird's the first, natch.) I'm here to spread the news: Homefront's a mighty good film, perhaps the best of its kind; way better than the overrated Taken, yet sharing that film's spirit and tone of taking revenge of those who've wronged you and your family. This isn't cookie-cutter action: there are thriller elements here; there are complex characters here; there are treatises on mistakes and ramifications here; there's James Freaking Franco here.

But maybe we don't grapple quite enough with exactly when we're supposed to stop being Mr. Nice Guy. Or if we ever are. I won't lay out a case for either self-defense or pacifism here; it's too complicated a matter for the confines of a movie review. But I will say that movies nearly always oversimplify things, turning shades of gray into blacks and whites, playing on our emotions instead of our minds and hearts. And we need to be wary of that.
