Home to Danger

This little mystery gradually grew into something more exciting that it had any right to be. Directed by Terence Fisher, most known for Hammer horrors. Home to Danger (1951) was done right before he joined the studio, and you can see why Hammer Film would want him. He had an eye for the darker side. And that comes out nicely for this plot.

The cast seems (especially early on) to be sleepwalking through this production, as though they were renting the studio by the hour so they had to get through it in a hurry. And Rona bears a relentless grin throughout, regardless of how bad the tidings; she resembles some host of an early-morning wake-up show subbing until the real actress gets back. At any rate, it still manages to be pretty entertaining, and certainly there were no lulls. And Rolfe had an insouciant charm.
