Holiday

This film fucked with me. I found out about it because I was reading about the French Extremism movement, which I was already familiar with, but this film came up in reference to films made in more recent times, which piqued my curiosity. A somewhat minimal, yet brutal depiction of cruelty. I could only imagine that this would be a much more challenging experience to watch this if it was in a theatre.

A jarring juxtaposition of the superficial mundanity and the underlying brutality and callousness found in a group of criminals on summer vacation. Definitely heed that opening trigger warning.

strange to say about a film containing one of the most banal, anthropological, innocuously graphic rape scenes ever put to celluloid, but it's the mirror dance that disturbs most of all, this vision of a woman searching her body for a self and finding only meat, plastic and glitter. each subsequent development is already there in that terrible void of a shot. (note: avoid the censored amazon version.)

watchable

Difficult to watch at times, but Sonne and Yde drew me into the drama that the character of Sascha elects not to recognize whenever she looks at herself inquiringly in the mirror and then tries to reassure herself by putting on a fake smile.

The direction, and portrait of low life gangsters with money, is impressively taut, edgy and horrific.
