Hobgoblins 2

I'm not sure who this is supposed to appeal to; "fans" of the original film itself or fans of it's MST3k episode. It's too self-aware to not end up insulting both crowds. Instead of a real sequel, Sloane has given us a bizarre masturbatory self-homage bogged down by so many not-so-subtle nods to its predecessor that it might as well be its predecessor. A sad attempt to cash in on a cult following that was provided by much more talented people, Hobgoblins 2 is bad at being bad.

After developing a cult following for being such a terrible film during the period of time during the 80's small creature-feature era "Gremlins" knock-offs, this remake of a bad movie made self-referential and intentionally bad is seemingly only for hardcore fans of the original. The movie seems better made, yet still managed to surpass the original at being the terrible combination of being mind numbingly dull and frustratingly bad, but again like the original rarely ever in a enjoyable way.

A surprisingly multi-tiered plot. A little heavy handed at first but once everything settles in it becomes entertaining. While the production is better with snappier editing, the acting is clearly worse than the original.
