I so wanted to love Hired Wife (1940) because there was a lively spirit there, but the tempo never worked for me and in the end I gave up searching for laughs.

Why did I decide to watch this? I hate the fake marriage trope, an unknown 40’s screwball won’t change that, and yet here I am, having wasted 1h 30min of my life. The only positive thing I can say is that it had like 2 sex jokes that were less prudish than what I was expecting.
