Hidden Strike

Fun predictable action flick with two cultures clashing as Jackie Chan & John Cena team-up. Oil ninjas, jet demolition trucks, soap brawl and massive kabooms! Does what it sets out to do and wastes no time doing it, which was why it was as entertaining as it was.

The CGI effect and green screen aren't that good but it works well enough for a straightforward kind of dumb action movie. Cena and Chan each do their thing well but aren't that good together as their styles just clash too much. It was also weird seeing just how much better of an actor Chan was compared to Cena who does a decent job with his limited range. The tone of the film flip-flops a bit too much and some of the camerawork was very distracting but overall I enjoyed this.

Fun

How does a movie have CGI this bad after spending 5 years in post-production? Something clearly went wrong. Cute action comedy which its leads try their best to carry despite poor writing and a dull plot. I have a feeling some of the humor and the writing quality were lost in translation. Bubble bath martial arts showdown is the higlight of the whole thing. Alas, it's just not good enough.

You get exactly what you'd expect from a duo action movie with Chan and Cena. The two admittedly do have some funny chemistry and the action scenes go to some pretty funny extremes, but overall there's very little that makes Hidden Strike stand out in these modern action films. It's good for a few laughs and decent action, but I was hoping for more.

The first act is a horrible written excuse for two protagonists from seemingly opposing sides to team-up. But once JC and JC finally do team-up around the 45 minute mark, the films picks up. The green screen is still incredibly unconvincing, but at least it delivers on what one expects from this movie; satisfying action and fun cultural miscommunication jokes.
