Here's to Romance

1935
Comedy, Musical
International singing sensation Nino Martini made his American film debut in the Jesse L. Lasky production HERE'S TO ROMANCE. His career bankrolled by the beneficent opera diva Mme. Schumann-Heink (playing herself), singer Nino Donelli (Martini) hits the big time, and as a bonus falls in love with his leading lady Lydia Lubov (Anita Louise). For a while, however, their romance is nearly loused up by wealthy, self-centered art patrons Kathleen and Emery Gerard.

What I loved the most was how likable as a cheating bastard Reginald Denny was. As a sponsor of the arts he had his little talents he groomed. So his wife Genevieve Tobin decides to get a protégé of her own, Nino Martini. That where this fails. He already has a girlfriend and Tobin is surprisingly tame in flirting with him. Had this been made during precode days she would have been all over him! The rest is Martini singing a ton of operatic songs. Strong voice, questionable screen personality.
