It's about as good as any movie that is completely derivative, predictable, and one-dimensional can be. It mostly works when you manage to look past all that. Kevin James is very likable. The humor is aimed broadly and while rarely hilarious (to adults) it's mostly pleasant. The fighting is good, albeit implausible. There will be people who hate it but as a family movie you can do a lot worse in regards to everyone being entertained.

This really is pretty terrible, but there's a part of me that enjoyed it anyway. The fighting is sometimes passable, sometimes awful, and cameos can only do so much.

the premise is beyond lame, and sorry but the melting pot is a hype, it doesnt work like this, Americans are unfortunately much more racist than they would have you believe (and sometimes they're even able fool themselves). But I'm amazed by the physical feat Kevin James pulls off, I'd never have imagined him acheiving something more than the stereotypical couch potato loser that he seldom portrays on screen [SPOILER>>] and I loved the modern Rocky ending. Guess I'm a sucker for happy endings.

Very little to enjoy. The lazy underdog story was expected, The School of Rock elements embarrassing.

Actually better than I expected. Some genuinely funny moments, and Kevin James's character is very likable. The fight scenes were pretty fun, too.

With the same forces from the Adam Sandler films behind this, Here Comes the Boom is your typical filler comedy that contains a choppy plot and corny jokes. However, you feel a lot of the effort and soul that Kevin James put into his role, which makes it difficult to turn away from.

Here Comes the Boom benefits from Kevin James's genial presence but the film doesn't deliver enough laughs to live up to its title -- or enough satisfying plot to make up the difference.

I'd call this Tropes Done Right: The Movie. Everything you'd expect but had some decent physical comedy, good timing, and didn't have poor execution. I'm just waiting for Kevin James to end up with a decent script because I think he has potential. He just needs to get away from the bad ones.

Fun enough watch if you're deep into MMA (as in, deep enough to laugh at Chael getting submitted, Krzysztof Soszynski still being employed at UFC 170-something and Mark DellaGrotte being ridiculous), but it's certainly not a movie that I'd have been sad to miss. Would imagine it's absolutely dreadful if you're not familiar with the world of MMA. Salma Hayek looks nice and both Kevin James and especially the Fonz are pretty likable, but could have used some moments that were actually funny.

If you watched this movie, it's probably because you're a fan of Kevin James. He delivered exactly what I always saw him as and I wish we could clone him. I'm so happy for him - I know his love for Rocky (great impressions as well as that scene in King of Queens). Not the greatest film of all time but if I could watch a movie like this every night - I might be a happier person

Rocky / Bad Teacher: Kevin James, a biology teacher / highschool wrestler begins competing mixed martial arts to try to fund and save a failing school's orchestra from being cut from the budget. It's a charming/fun story! Though it does have an upper limit of believability well below Rocky. Sylvester Stallone is a believably Cinderella story Kevin James is not.

"Here comes the Boom" has some cool moments and James probably gave his best in this role, but the story feels dull and the plotline always seems to be seen a 100 times before.
Seeing James in his actual movies always make me think about King of Queens. I really wish he would grab Jerry Stiller and Leah Remini to produce some more KoQ Seasons. i adored this comedy show.

Wonderful , fun film. More inspirational than funny.
"For there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends," James paraphrased in an interview with Plugged In. "That's essentially what this guy does. It's literally what this movie is about. We don't go around banging people over the head and preaching to them, but the message is certainly there, and it's by design." (plugged in.com)
A hollywood that Americans can be proud of.

There's enough here to make me like it despite its massive suckage. When I think about what James, Hayek, and Winkler could have done with these same characters in a much smarter script, it makes me sad. It's an awful movie with three strong performances and a couple (literally a couple!) of really good scenes.

Kevin James is the most likeable he's been in years, he's supported by a solid-enough cast, and the story, while simple and kiddie-friendly, hits the requisite structural beats successfully. The attempts at humour are hit-and-miss & the characters are largely stereotypes (especially, and disappointingly, Greg Germann's principal.) But all in all, it's a likeable enough hundred minutes; there are far worse popcorn movies out there.

Okay, yeah, I thought it was a tremendous amount of high-spirited, cheerful, energetic fun. I've got two kids, so I have to see every kidflick that comes out, and here's one that's fast-paced and positive and full of likable characters and actually provides us with an adult male lead who's strong and self-confident and proactive and selfless and bighearted. Sue me; I really dug the thing. We need more kidflicks like it. Quickly. Please?
