Henry Gamble's Birthday Party

Tries hard to be slick and somewhat managed. It doesn't try to offer answers, and barely asks questions anyway.

WTF I made this movie in my head like 10,000 times I'm pretty sure.

I feel like someone made this movie just for me. People struggling with identity and religion, a minimalist style that seems like you're intruding on a day in the life of these people, a suicide attempt and scenes set to pop music.

I'm fond of the formal elements here--the use of water as another way of seeing, the brisk pacing, and the atmospheric music. But the film seems to have more characters than it can handle. Further, no one (among the main characters) seems particularly happy--everyone putting on some kind of show to hide their sexual repression or guilt. A few side characters (not Christians) seem more comfortable with themselves, but all the religious characters seem deeply conflicted or unhappy--nuance needed.
