Hughes' made this film specifically to compete with 1927's Wings, so I guess it's fair to compare the two. The charming Clara Bow is this time around replaced with the horrendous Harlow. On the other hand, this time the action sequences are more impressive and the aerial cinematography more jaw-dropping, even by today's standards. However, both films still suffer from a mediocre plot. This film is also of significance for originating the phrase "Slip into something more comfortable."

This would long be forgotten as yet another war movie in a crowded field if not for the stunning aerial sequences (and the eccentric director). Those, unfortunately, are sandwiched in between some terrible acting (which even Harlow can't spice up). As a side note, I've always been sad Zeppelins didn't become more popular, but after seeing the one in this movie (a few years before the Hindenburg, even), perhaps it's for the best.

Had its moments, but overall just a long, slow, dull film. Props for accomplishing what it did in its time, but it just doesn't hold up.

"Hell's Angels" doesn't have much of a story, and the acting is not the best, but knowing that the air sequences are real makes the film more interesting.

Horribly dated, with extremely wooden acting. More famous for the amount spent on making it, rather than its meandering story.
