Hellgate

Charles Marquis Warren remake of John Ford's The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936). Stars Sterling Hayden, who takes his job serious, but struggles letting much personality shine through. But he is a man wronged, and is stubborn and bitter, in line with his character. Sent to a western-era prison work camp, paying his dues and played by the warden Ward Bond, who had the most to offer. Doesn't reach the quality of the original, but for a B-movie version of it, Hellgate (1952) is a okay effort.

You'd think from the title, this is a horror. Well, instead it's a dramatic Western/Prison movie.
