The plot is a little hard to take seriously, especially with some of the sped-up footage during the driving scenes, but the conflicts (both internal and external) between the characters make it a compelling watch. Stanley Baker is particularly impressive in the lead role, but Herbert Lom puts in a wonderful performance as a kindly Italian immigrant.

Em honra de Peggy Cummins (1925 - 2017). DVDRip no MakingOff.

Broody Baker performance, his first lead role. Shame he died at just 48 - too many cigarettes. Interesting to see all the big names to be in supporting roles. Crazy how HGV drivers were treated back then.

The working-class personal/political tension leads to a splendidly drawn immigrant characterization by Herbert Lom and the human drama of Baker dangling from a precipice. Both remain memorable.

Title and concept build this to be something it’s not. Not as exciting as one would think

Classic with great cast. A wild Ronnie Barker appears.

An intensely executed, bracing critique of capitalism, the film dramatizes the destructive results of pure economic competition. However, it stacks the deck, implicating the bosses in illegal activity—it would be much more effective if the bosses were honorable people driven to excess by need.
