You know what made Heavy Metal fun? 80s music. You know what makes Heavy Metal 2000 suck? 90s music.

Nothing too complicated here, just cartoony violence and boobs and stuff.

The best part was the cover by Simon Bisley. Not much to do with the story inside.

Should have been an anthology, some parts work, others do not, it's a pretty dumb movie.

An unexpected improvement upon the original. "Heavy Metal 2000" eschews the anthology format and it's for the better. The story is a play on the first film's themes and in general on tropes such as immortality and obsession, however now it's given time to breathe, showcases said themes much better and is more engaging. Michael Ironside and Billy Idol are great, and the soundtrack, occasional brutality and visuals (with the exception of the horrific, puzzling CGI at the end) are pretty cool.

A complete abomination. I wouldn't say they wrecked the legacy of the original but they sure as hell tried.

Just garbage. Nothing like the original film. The music never feels like it belongs in the scene that has been selected to host that song. It is painfully clear that the filmmakers had no idea what made the 1981 film so special.

Kick ass follow up to the classic 80s film. Loads of sci-fi/fantasy/horror elements still giving it the proper feel. Great voice acting by Strain and especially Ironside. Billy Idol does a good job and his little stone sidekick has some great funny lines. The music in this one is quite stellar, with the Pantera tune a true highlight during the air fight.

Despite the magazine publisher's insistence on abusing his power by turning the film into a simultaneous ad for his wife, the irritating blare of sludge rock with every action sequence & distracting fade-out edits after every setting change, this is somehow better than the original. The original's anthology format, marijuana-riddled teenage nostalgia aside, made for some wildly fluctuating quality in stories whereas this maintains a just-barely watchable, what'd-you-expect feel throughout.

A try hard response to the original that relied more on CG animation than a plot.

try not to compare it the origonal and its not a bad animated movie. What this movie has going for it is that there really isnt a whole lot of movies like it to compare it to. Its got heavy metal, hot chicks, and sci-fi action, i like all of the above so that makes it fun to watch. On the downside the heavy metal music seems forced and doesnt quite fit at times and the story isnt overly engaging. Still a fun watch and we need more like it.

Strangely tepid and unmemorable follow-up to the high-octane original.

I wasn't a fan of the first one so this was just really unimpressive. I didn't find the soundtrack anywhere near as impressive and what charm the first one had, which wasn't really very much in my opinion, is nowhere to be found here. Unless you absolutely loved and completely adored the first Heavy Metal then you can certainly give this one a miss.

This might be the best movie Ralph Bakshi never made. Though sadly, the animation looks a little worse than his average fare. It's a pretty big red flag when the movie opens not with a rockin' metal sequence like the first movie, but with expository dialogue about the plot. It's a shame they dropped the anthology format, because this movie only really has the strength of a single mediocre segment from the previous movie. Not to mention that the music has taken a dive since last time.

What the fuck is this gutless garbage? I followed the (painfully slow) development of this film for years via Heavy Metal magazine, and Simon Bisley's concept art was incredible. That they turned it into this lowly turd sickens me.
