One of the better done ghost stories, but still a ghost story, and so people end up reconciled and death not only has no sting, in the end it has a large helping of zing as well, and is thus no barrier to happiness. As in all Natali films, David Hewlett makes an appearance, and is ok, though not given as good a cameo as he had in 'Cypher'.

I might just be stupid but I got totally lost when they started going to the different timelines

I had high hopes for this one after reading the synopsis but it didn't sit all that well. Would barely call this one a horror and much more thriller/mystery.

I liked the idea behind Haunter, but the execution really lets the film down. Breslin is alright but overplays a lot of her reactions and can't carry the film, while the rest of the cast is just forgettable. The set-up is filled with dolly-zooms, sharp angles and jump cuts, which are well done but accompanied by a sluggish pace. While the ending shifts to hazy effects and a thoroughly unengaging visualisation of possession.

Groundhog Day meets Ghost. Not that bad, couple of creepy bits but it tracks too slow. Ending gets a bit convoluted and finishes too neat. Breslin is not always on target, sometimes she recovers mid scene. I'd be happy with Pancakes every day and Murder She Wrote every night.

Bad writing, bad (over) acting, stupid CGI. It has a little potential in the beginning, but it becomes extremely dumb. Has the main character looking scared and having her mouth open all the time

Not bad, just predictable and forgettable.

If a young-adult novelist took the paint cans for Groundhog Day and The Shining and mixed her own batch with it, you'd have this claustrophobic slow-burner by the Canadian chamber-piece specialist whose previous high-concept nightmares Cube and Nothing similarly could've held their own through better theatrical releases if only horror fans chose better contenders for positive word of mouth. The reason has less to do with quality than satisfying the gorehounds.

I think I hate it more because we had the chance to watch ZODIAC but a friend chose this instead.

Enjoyable. It's not exactly great but the ghost story here is relatively original (which is a feat in itself in this genre) and keeps it interesting until almost the end. The ending is shit.

An interesting ghost story with a few twists: a mix of "The Sixth Sense" and "The Others" with a little "Groundhog Day" thrown in for good measure. The direction is taut, the tale keeps your interest, and Abigail Breslin --who continues to surprise and delight with her range and charm at the age of 17--shows herself worthy of a long and rewarding adult career.

It has a quite original take on the haunted house premise.

Natali is just getting progressively sillier with his films. "Splice" had an element of self-aware comedy to it, but this is just ridiculous. However, the visuals are gorgeous, the period settings perfectly realised and McHattie is fantastically creepy. Also, Breslin completely channels Emily Perkins in Ginger Snaps.
