I'm the target market (love the attraction, don't want to be too frightened), but this failed. I blame the direction more than the script: there were moments clearly intended to be comedic or shocking or something, and they didn't achieve it. The director's the one who needs to see it's not working and they need some more takes. It's simple. Say the line again a few different ways. So I suspect focussing on visual effects led them to forget to do a good job of telling their story.

It has a similar vibe to the Eddie Murphy version, but without his humor. Though it’s not the best vehicle for him, I really like LaKeith Stanfield. Would be fun to put on in the background while you’re doing other things. I’m probably rating this higher than I’d expect most to because I love the Haunted Mansion ride.

One of those movies where there is tons of action and events but it is absolutely woeful and boring.

Haunted Mansion is a fairly conventional film that sports a stacked cast, though it is a Disney film after all. As such there are more thrills than scares, which is fine for a younger audience. The comedy mainly comes inadvertently from some terrible dialogue (Yankee Candle, Amazon & CVS get a plug within a minute space). Fortunately the film has enough heart to make up for it, thanks to a surprisingly strong performance from Stanfield. The cast have good chemistry with each other. Enjoyable.

Objectively probably better than the 20 years older Eddie Murphy verision, but I am rating it significantly lower because I had less fun. So many jokes swing and miss. It gets bonus points as someone that loves the disney ride, but for all others I recommend - do not watch.

This one does a much better job of capturing the elements of the Disney ride. A pretty good stand-alone movie too.

I've come to a fascination with the Haunted Mansion in my adult life. I've never been to Disney so I've never been through this attraction. I've enjoyed the other Haunted Mansion properties more so than this one. I find the Eddie Murphy version fun and easy to watch. The Muppet version is cute with small elements of fear. The comic version is cool and hipster. This version is a patchwork off ideas that never coalesce. It seems like a movie made by committee. The acting was good but disjointed.

I am the target market. Zero may be an overly vitriolic response, since Owen Wilson brought maximum charisma to threadbare writing & directing, and Rosario Dawson played her role for all she was worth, but…at this point, Disney needs to be taken out back & shot. There’s no excuse to put this much money & acting talent to waste. It’s demoralizing to everyone performing & viewing. It’s an act of indecency to make something too calculatedly soulless to even enjoy ironically for its badness.

As a tribute to the ride it's pretty great with tons of references. The cast is severely lacking minus Stanfield and Dillon (and a couple cameos),l. After a really bad first act, the second act settles in with plenty to enjoy, but it certainly misses a lot of opportunities to be way better than it is executed.

Albeit very childish and cheap looking, Haunted Mansion had a few laughs. Owen Wilson is playing Owen Wilson again and the other characters are rather bland and forgettable.

The cast is really good, and that's basically why this movie works at all. I'm not the biggest Owen Wilson fan but he had the funniest bits, by far. Not that the movie was especially funny, but I did chuckle a few times. Ultimately, Haunted Mansion is fluff, but I think it would be a good horror comedy for kids.

This one is more fun than funny or scary. Although it is reasonably funny and scary for what it is. The heavy use of CGI helps with the "more fun than scary" feel. Also, Lakeith Stanfield brought more to the emotional scenes than the assignment required. A great family Halloween movie that was stupidly released in the summer. Basically, Hocus Pocus on a bigger budget. I'm not saying it will get a cult following like that one did, but I'm not saying it won't.

This was dumb, and it was FILLED with commercials (product placements or mentions). The "advertisements were way too much and detracted from the movie. Beyond that, the movie was ok. mildly entertaining, had a plot.

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that the reception on this is so lukewarm, though the dichotomy between critics and general audience is alive and well here (39/5.3 vs 84/8.4 on RT). Another movie this year where I just had fun. To echo another user, while this isn't where he does his best work, I thought LaKeith Stanfield was tremendous, and I always enjoy Rosario Dawson. It's not destined for any awards that Disney doesn't buy for it, but it doesn't have to be. Just has to be fun. To me, it is.

I didn't hate it, but it leaves a lot to be desired. There's some humor, and some minor horror, but it ultimately feels pretty flat and forgettable. I could see if you see this at a certain age growing up, having a certain level of nostalgia for it later in life. It feels like that sort of movie. I've heard there's a lot of easter eggs and callbacks to disney world and the ride, but I'm not familiar enough to have caught any of that.
