It turned back into a conventional road trip comedy too quickly and from that point on was just a shadow of the first film. While the first was an absurd fantasy with rich satire, this was a cartoon replete with yosemite sam villains and malleable consequences.

I loved the original, a somewhat smart stoner comedy. However, I was dissapointed with the follow-up film. It came out like it was trying too hard to be the films that it broke away from (like Half-Baked, Grandma's Boy, and so on). Still some very funny sequences (anything with Rob Corddry or NPH), but overall, not really worth it.

Big dissapointment. The first one was great because it exceeded expectations for a stoner comedy and managed to be really funny, and surprisingly clever with some of the most on point racial humor I've seen. This however, just wasn't clever at all, with the jokes being completely predictable and uninspired. It makes fun of our government, which means there's no lack of material, but none of the jokes are clever at all, they're just overdone and obvious. Really, just a big big disappointment.

More outlandish and disconnected than the first. You end up feeling they could have done a lot more if they had only aimed a little higher, no pun intended. Instead, it seems they went the other route and dumbed it down. It still is charming and usually funny, even when you see them coming, but the stupid, and 'fantasy' aspects have been turned up a notch. Seems rushed and unfinished in a way.

Not quite as good as the original, but still entertaining. The main problem is that it relies too often on easy jokes - not only the crass scatological humor, but also some very lame attempts at political satire. There are still some hilarious moments, as well as some heart, but the final product feels kind of slight.

Harold & Kumar knows how ridiculous it is and runs with it. It tries to make political statements about racism but flip flops over the place between trying to break down racist stereotypes and then using them itself. It just feels sloppy. It probably helps to be totally high when watching this so you don't actually think critically though.

While the first film was quite vulgar, it was original and charming in its own way. The sequel lacks everything that I liked about the first. It's often over the top and relies on vulgarity, profanity, and shock value for laughs, instead of intelligently poking fun at racism and stereotypes. There were some great one-liners but it doesn't outweigh the stupidity, in my opinion.

Much of a muchness to the first H&K effort, Escape opens with plenty of unashamedly stupid jokes that had me laughing much more than I was expecting to, and possibly the best party scene ever filmed. Unfortunately in the second half, after all the characters have been established, the quick-fire gags start to dry up and the whole thing feels a bit overlong. Shame, if it'd kept up the quality it would've been a keeper. From what I remember this could also have been said about its predecessor.

While a bigger budget may mean some larger scale set-pieces, it doesn't always mean a better product. Although the comedy duo, still hectic and stoned in equal measures, are just as mindlessly enjoyable to watch as in the original much of the intended humour has deteriorated slightly. That's not to say there aren't any good little scenes dotted about though, especially regarding the humour over blatant racism. As fan service it works, so remains worth a watch for those whom enjoyed the first.

You get what you expect with this movie, and then some, and that's the problem. The return appearance of Harris, playing a sexed-up, drugged-out version of himself, is welcome, and Cho and Penn slide back into their roles as Harold and Kumar as if there wasn't a four-year gap between movies. What the movie is missing is the low-key sweetness of "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle."

This sequel doesn't have much going for it other than the likability of its two bone-headed heroes. "Pineapple Express" has a good deal of wit to its stoner humor, but H&K2 really lacks any and all originality. Neil Patrick Harris makes for its only real bright spot; otherwise the film relies on nudity and sexcapades to keep the film moving. Occasionally the filmmakers find a decent joke, but they are scattered. At least it's brisk and not a terrible time, but there's no real reason to see it.

Noticeably less witty than the first one, but chocked full of the same style of comedy so it is certainly a fan service. There is a little too much potty-humor for my tastes, but the stoner jokes are great. There are some really funny scenes that poke fun at various minority groups and they are absolutely hilarious, like the Jews and the bag of coins and the blacks with the grape pop. So ridiculous and really funny.

It's predictable, it goes for easy laughs, its romantic subplot feels ripped straight out of Wedding Crashers and it's a total disappointment when put next to its predecessor. And yet, it's still enjoyable fun. For the most part, its heart is in the right place, and its lead characters are always likable (especially in flash-backs). Corddry's plot is mostly tired, but he manages to milk it for a few laughs, while NPH manages to steal the movie again (his 'exit' is the best scene in the flick).

The best parts of this movie were the ones which most closely resembled the original: Harold and Kumar on the road. The government plot was too ham-fisted, the romantic plot was too predictable, and the political stuff just felt tired. And that stuff takes up about 2/3 of the movie, so it wasn't very good.

Loved the first one, but this one is not nearly as funny or original. Relies far too heavily on cliches and stereotypes as well as bathroom humor for the easy laughs. FWIW, I grew up in Alabama and have never seen a KKK rally or know an inbred couple - this gets so tiresome to Southerners! Bottom line - went in really wanting to like it, came away feeling cheated. Would not recommend.

Enjoyable enough, but a step down from WHITE CASTLE – Cho and Penn’s likable camaraderie carries this a long way, even as the laughs start to dissipate after a very strong first act; once the titular act is achieved, the film tends to meander through an episodic haze, with none of the comparative momentum that elevated the original; I would even suggest heresy again by saying that surprisingly little is done with Harris’ very game cameo. Fun, but pretty mild to tepid.

It's best when they focus on Harold & Kumar's friendship. The humor's cheaper, the plot is more contrived, and the chemistry even seems strained. There are some respectably funny moments in this one, but they're few and far between.

Harold and Kumar suffer only a minor decrease in quality for this second installment. The film is still laugh out loud funny and contains some surprising depth between the lines and curses. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay is a film that I found funnier than the first film, although it still could have easily benefited from some trimming. However, the additions it makes, the risks that it takes, and the rules that it breaks ensures that it's easily worth seeing, especially if you were a fan of Go to White Castle. It makes solid criticisms and it's a lot of fun, so I recommend it. Make sure you stay through the credits, though; you'll see why after you watch it.

I thought this was slightly better than the original, although it doesn't really get the laughs until later in the film. Some people say the political elements are hamfisted and dumb, but maybe a political environment gets the satire it deserves. Once again Neil Patrick Harris steals the scenes he's in with his deadpan delivery of his "real-life" persona.

Cho and Penn do a fantastic time as the would-be stoner heros of this film. This movie reminds me so much of films like Dude Where's My Car and Euro Trip. Just the kind of zany fast-paced comedy that keeps you laughing. Being a conservative I have to laugh at the G.W. Bush parts of the movie, my favorite line in the movie is "Oh no it's Cheney! Let's hide in the guesthouse!" A raunchy comedy for sure, but if that doesn't bother you then this is a must see. NPH rules!
