A quirky comedy with bittersweet tones, unlike any other Yimou film I've seen. At first it's all over the place but eventually settles into a gentle farce about a fast-talking old fella who takes a blind girl under his wing. Really charming performances by all, the interplay between the characters is truly endearing. The movie is very touching, and it contains some subtle socio-political commentary. A heartwarming tearjerker, marred only by the entertaining but choppy & sloppy first act.

Sweet and tragic.

Wonderful, creative film about a con man who ends up feeling sorry for and caring for a blind girl, even if his means are dishonest, his intentions are good and genuine.
