An unusual comedy with a main character (Writer, director and lead actor Jess Garlin) with many flaws was surprisingly enjoyable to watch. Christine Woods was marvelous. Performances from the supporting cast was campy and over the top with a few pushed far beyond absurd, becoming ludicrously exaggerated caricatures. Humorous and light throughout. Fun to watch, but far from great.

I actually liked this. Garlin is great as a straight man detective where literally everyone else is a ridiculous cartoon. It's not great but I definitely found myself chuckling routinely.

With the short run time and a cast of quirky characters, this feels like an aborted TV series pilot that was released as a Netflix movie. Despite the weak writing there's a lot of decent comedic performances on display and if you're able to let the generic plot wash over you, there's worse ways to spend 80 mins of your time.

Garlin is always a favorite actor of mine and like his other directorial efforts for better or worse everything is tailored exactly to his comedic sensibilities. Honestly though, this feels more like a pilot for a tv show that netflix just randomly decided to turn into a movie. There's a lot to like here, but it needed to be fleshed out more to really work as a standalone piece. A good example being all of the jr detectives. They would have worked a lot better as side characters in a tv show.

This is an entertaining film. Both Jeff Garlin and Natasha Lyonne do a good job with their roles in this movie. The script works, it sets the right tone for this work. Overall I would recommend this movie.

There's a certain charm to what Garlin is doing here. He's fine, and the actors are fine as a whole, but it tries way too hard to be funny and almost none of the jokes hit. It has an excellent reoccurring theme that plays a bunch of times throughout, but it's just such a slog. Also, I know they are trying to be quirky but you can't even appreciate the actual mystery of it because they tell you who murdered the girl at the beginning. In a more entertaining movie that would have been okay.
