Loomis' reign of terror continues, he fires a handgun several times next to a child's head to open a door. THE MAN CANT BE STOPPED.

Not sure why this is so disliked. While it does fail to explain how Loomis is still around (which admittedly doesn't bode well for the rest of the film), this surprised me every step of the way & Pleasance gives his best "The ice is gonna break!" performance. The film never conforms to the slasher template: face-offs happen during the day; teens don't die the way/ when you expect; the cops are quick & decisive; many murders happen off-screen; & though the ending may be polarizing, it's fresh.

Although I've come to enjoy the attempted change-up that was "Halloween III"(1982), the 4th film in the series was the first attempt to reboot the franchise and return to Michael Myers, Dr. Loomis, and the Haddonfield gang. Despite the wonky connection back to "Halloween II"(1981), this sequel makes for a surprisingly watchable enough 80's slasher. However, the ending is really what makes the movie for me. So, I'm sure the franchise won't find a way to mess that up with the next sequel.

Loomis only exists to make things worse. He sends an angry mob to kill an innocent, and he's ready to shoot a group people dressed as Michael. And you know what? We love him for it.

Last we saw him, Michael Myers was shot in the eyes and left a burning corpse. But in order for this series to live on, every time they kill Michael, they must then murder logic. So here he is, life and sight recovered. And if you can forgive that, it's a pretty respectable sequel with a bitchin' ending if you ask me.

I'm surprised that this one is actually pretty middle-ground. I was expecting something awful so this is very refreshing. It's not as tight as the first two or three, but Halloween 4 brings back Michael Myers effectively (minus the horrible mask), as well as Donald Pleasance's Dr. Loomis. There's some fun kills and a great ending that leaves this from being a bad entry, in my opinion.

The Return of Michael and a return to form for the franchise to a fair degree. Never reaching the heights of the original, this sequel does get a number of things right and will please it's target audience. Danielle Harris is surprisingly excellent as Michael's young niece, while Pleasence hams it up so much, you have to laugh. The scares are a little lacking but some of the kills are ok, but the ending came out of nowhere and I loved it! One of the best moments of the entire franchise for me.

Pretty decent return to the Mike Myers mythos, which is almost entirely uninteresting in and of itself, but allows for people to get murdered, which is what we're here for in the first place. Kathleen Kinmont is in this which is all the excuse I need to do a Renegade rant: Donald Pleasance as Sam Loomis, he was a doctor and actually pretty bad at his job.

Surprisingly (considering the absence of Jamie Lee) better than Halloween II. Don't get me wrong - I'm not calling it good. It's generic and predictable and never scary at any point. But it has a level of patience more reminiscent of the first film and the final moments, while super dumb, are also very memorable and should launch you into the end credits with a grin on your face.

Plot hole city, yet still somewhat watchable. The kills are pretty weak, the writing sucks and this movie needed some major editing work, should've been like 25 minutes long. The ending sucks so much ass that it automatically made me drop my score significantly. Extra points for Jamie's an Orphan! Jamie's an Oprhan!

Enjoyable entry is a step-up from III, slow to start but getting a major shot of energy from the return of the mother-f**kin star Pleasence (replete with his Blofeld knock-off makeup, it's neck-and-neck between Loomis and Myers who the real madman is this time round). Pleasence's presence seems to spark his fellow cast members, leading to a batshit final third which is never scary per se, but incredibly entertaining. Nice work from Harris who elevates her precocious child archetype.

Halloween II was an earnest effort that didn't match the original. Halloween III did it's own thing. Halloween 4 is the first that feels like a cheap slasher with the Meyers character slapped on. Considering the state of the genre by '88, it's a cut well above it's peers. As a horror movie in general, it's entertaining but nothing special. Interestingly, the 2018 rebootquelmake seems to take a few cues for it's first act from here.

The ever-crazed Dr. Loomis and a relatively entertaining third act save this entry from being a total train wreck. The plot and most of the new characters are bland and stupid, even by slasher movie sequel standards, but it's still got its moments, if you're into this sort of thing.

Great ending, but the rest is pretty bad. These Halloween sequels (with the exception of part 3) never have the guts to do anything particularly noteworthy. They're not even gory. Even by the standards of crappy 80s slashers, this falls short.

Yeah, this is kind of just a terrible movie, but what the fuck, it's Michael Myers killing some people. You can do a lot worse. Also, total bonus points for a really dark and ballsy ending that they could've easily just not done. It also showcases my favorite thing in movies ever, "Dr. Loomis' eternally useless bullshit handgun".

It threatens to be good a few times, then grants us mercy and retreats to sweet sweet mediocrity. The only good part of it was the kid. Danielle Harris was actually a pretty good actress, and sold the hell out of the scariness without being a screaming little baby all the time. She was also good in Roseanne, and can currently be seen signing headshots for 4 bucks a pop in the celebrity zoo at your nearest sci-fi convention.

Horrible writing/acting/directing. regular sized plot holes for an 80's slasher flick (how exactly does turtle speed man get on a speeding truck?). I just wish that the slasher genre had discovered the miracle of gore by this time, because this movie has none. I give it pluses for having a cute little girl and that ending was pretty decent.

Watch a ten-year-old girl act circles around almost every other Scream Queen. Sit tight while almost nothing of consequence happens in the 2nd act. Blood, false scares, near boob exposure, hooray. I dunno, the parts of this that are done well are great -- and largely coincide with Pleasence appearing onscreen -- but the rest is just dumb late '80s horror stuff that you can either forgive or you can't. Fun movie. I've heard 5 is atrocious.

This movie just feels lazy. I liked the mood of some scenes and the locations were cool for the most part. But there's little thrill or creativity to the kills and most of the time Mr. Myers is either slow-walking towards people or standing menacingly in front of some light source. I did like the kid and the babysitter being the focus of this one, but as a horror movie, it's just very lukewarm. Still liked it better than the third part, because at least this one went back to the original roots.

An interesting theme about intergenerational trauma is buried in here somewhere, later revisited by Zombie for the superior H2, and when it briefly appears we get a sense of what it perhaps could have been in the hands of more talented people. Little has a marginal sense of style, but it is a pretty mechanical exercise overall, giving the fans what they want and not furthering the story in any meaningful way until the 'shocking' finale, which is executed rather poorly.

The gun kill is cool and there are moments that have an atmosphere I like but overall it doesn't really retain the vibe I feel is right for Michael or Haddonfield. He also looks pretty weird in this one. It's a pretty boring movie for the most part and can't hang with the first 3.

Decent enough considering what came after, it successfully creates a fuzzy nostalgic Halloween atmosphere. The second act is slow, but more importantly the complete lack of involvement of JLC prevents this from being the second best Michael Myers film ahead of Halloween II.

The mask looks goofy as hell this time around. Whatever magical process that Shatner mask went through on the original film is apparently impossible to replicate. The concept is shitty as hell -- Myers returning to kill his niece and SURPRISE she becomes the next gruesome killer (reaction shot of Loomis) --, but the film does pretty nothing to improve it on screen. Little's strategy to really SHOW Myers' presence doesn't even provide some fun gore, because the film is just too shy to show blood. Well, despite of that, I can actually enjoy its bits of complete stupidity -- drunk old dudes running around with guns, Loomis taking a ride with a crazy reveren

Passable sequel to Carpenter's Halloween which is basically a rehash of the original with new characters plus an aging Donald Pleasance, who is still the highlight of the film. It's not bad as far as horror sequels go, and at least the new characters are annoying, but it's all been done a lot better earlier. Same applies to Alan Howarth's routine score. It gets certain crucial things right: the introduction to the new main characters so that we will care for them later on and the up-to-par, consistent suspense. On the downside, it's prone to carelessness and jumpy pacing, possibly to avoid explaining the inexplicable plot holes - if you turn your brain off and see this as merely a convention that facilitates the action, you'll have a blast. It's a good but not great horror film with an ending that walks the line between far-fetched and awesome.

Top badass moment? Mike's back, following the extensive surgery he must have needed after being totally burnt to a crisp. (And whoever the plastic surgeon was, he did a brilliant job, sticking all the bits of ash back together again.) Weirdly, he also seems to have turned into the Terminator, but without the clever one-liners. Even the film's opening music sounds like it came from the latter movie, whilst the Halloween theme itself has now gained a beat. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

Halloween III was shunned for trying something new. And so, Halloween perpetually returned to gory slashers about Michael Myers. But because of that, sadly, Halloween 4 marked the doom of the franchise. It's a dumbed down and unworthy rehash that offers barely any explanation for the revival of dead characters from II. But it has its perks; young Danielle Harris is likable in the leading role, there is some atmosphere and occasionally suspense, and the ending is suitably disturbing and shocking.

This movie would have rated probably a 60-65, since it mostly wasn't bad, and had a good performance from Donald Pleasence. Actually, it's really number 3 for Michael. Although graphic violence is mostly played down in favor of suspense, the whole masked-maniac-on-the-loose scenario is, by now, so hopelessly cliched that there are virtually no surprises -- except maybe how Pleasence's character manages to survive being stabbed and blown up! The climax is fairly taut, but its effect is negated by a twist ending stolen from _Friday the 13th -- The Final Chapter_.
