Hakuja den

The first color anime, as well as the first shown in North America, Hakuja Den is the retelling of a Chinese legend about a boy and a magic serpent who fall in love. The art work, particularly the landscapes, can be quite beautiful, but the storytelling is unfocused. Mainly of historical interest.

Well, I think that you should rate this movie on the basis of the courage and ambition it has given to the next generation of Japanese anime masters, as it seems they all watched it as a child. So it is as impactful as they come and still enjoyable for a kid after 60 years (no small feat). A good watch if you are interested in the evolution of art forms.
