That this is consistently rated tier 1 shows collective lack of perspective. When Twilight films are released yearly pushing the worst female role model of all time onto millions of young girls, I find it hard to judge this effort as harshly. Yeah, it's oddly cast, silly to the point of ridiculous and apparently written by a 5-year-old. A bunch of OK set pieces abhorrently strung together and a fairly acceptable moral lesson. Apart from the fact that it's a poor film at best, what's the problem?

Surprisingly enough, this isn't offensively terrible on a Johnny English scale. Sure, it isn't funny (I laughed at the references, that's about it), it couldn't be more disrespectful to the source material if it tried and its moral lessons are fucked up but it does have a certain charm, it's creative to a certain extent and I love the entire cast (except Corden and Tate, they can go fuck themselves), there's something morbidly entertaining watching them at their career low-points.

JB just isnt funny anymore... However if you can see past the bad adaptation of the classical novel, JB's insisting on singing what he's doing and the horrible rock-song-ending it has some enjoyable moments, especially some of the reference parts. But thats about it! Gulliver's Travels wedgied me back to 2nd grade but not in a positive manner. Props for using Prince in a modern Cyrano de Bergerac kind of way... And its only 75 min, so if you have nothing else to do...

Certainly not THAT awful, I just found it startling to see this (already short) movie hastily jump from one scene to another as if in a panic. It's as if the producers had so little faith in the finished product that they didn't want to give the audience the faintest stretch of time to dwell on any detail. You won't miss anything by skipping it.

To no one's real surprise this is crap, but at least it's not excruciatingly terrible, just run of the mill bad. Stupid jokes, badly paced formulaic story and annoying Jack Black antics, but more than anything it's the waste of so much potential with the material that really hurts.

This classic story seemed cool to make a movie, but was poorly executed. The special effects are pathetic, they are merely cheap camera tricks, losing all the fun. The humor is not annoying, but just it is not enough, lack some charisma and dynamism.

You know, this had some potential. The set-up was there, the sweetness, the pathos for the film's main characters, the talent. But somewhere between an engaging first 15 minutes and a rock-and-roll, song-and-dance sequence in the final five minutes, it gets horribly lazy. That's too bad, because with a little more creativity from the writers and director, Gulliver's Travels could have been one of those rather rare films that cracks the kids up and rewards the parents who pay for the admission.

Pretty poor, but perhaps not the complete disaster it’s reputation suggests. Even so, a shoddy retelling of a classic tale.

Somewhere after the wedgie motif, and between the ball kicking robot battle and him becoming a girl's doll, not quite before the 3rd kidnapping joke, but certainly after the 3rd 'skittlededoo', I fell out with this film. Ignoring the fact that it's more a series of unrelated mini scenes than any semblance of a contiguous story. I have no idea what the source material is like, and have absolutely no intention of ever finding myself engaging with it again. Put it down before you hurt yourself.

Not the most ground-breaking modern re-reading of Jonathan Swift's classic possible, but Rob Letterman's "Gulliver's Travels" is a fun picture. Jack Black is Jack Black once more, energetic and funny as always, and is supported by a delicious host of actors. It's an entertaining little comedy (no pun intended), with several uproarious moments, but the main impression is that Gulliver just got Jack Black-ed big time... and personally I don't see a problem with that whatsoever.

When I first saw a poster for Gulliver's Travels I thought, "This could be cute.
Its scriptwriters attempt to get by solely on Jack Black's now-typecast charm. And they give him, essentially, one joke to work with: There's this guy, see, who lies to everybody by borrowing rock song lyrics and action movie plots to bring attention to himself. Ba-dump-chuck. Oh, and everybody around him is 1/100th his size. (pluggedin.com)

Even though O'Dowd isn't brilliant here, his presence normally gives a film a couple more points in my ratings, which it does here. Some silly fun to be found, but relies too heavily on jokes that will date it.

You don't get to sing "War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing" after resolving your conflict by fighting a giant robot to the death. You *just* proved that violence solves conflicts, _no dance number for you!_

Someone fire that casting director. Jack Black as Gulliver? I guess it's a good way to get today's youth exposed to a classic, but the perversion of the story makes that a moot point.

Jack Black recruits an army of Liliputians to build him an epic-sized mansion, pees on a fire to put it out, and brings peace to all just by rolling around on the ground singing "War (What is it Good For?)." Roughly four hundred trillion miles from what Swift originally intended, no doubt, but my kids enjoyed it, and there are a few high-spirited laughs and bright performances. Not all that bad, I guess.

The pseudo-adult humor, borrowed from Stillman's collaboration on the screenplays of the first two films from the Shrek franchise, seems now repetitive and too obvious. And Letterman, investing in dozens of film and pop culture references (from Star Wars to Lollapalooza), and poor special effects, achieves little.
