A better-than-average cast can't save this cheap and not-scary Jaws ripoff. The bear in question can apparently decapitate horses with one swipe - maybe he was a Corleone enforcer?

A grizzly bear rips people's faces off, eats humans, knocks over a watchtower and kills a person by doing that, judo chops a horse's head off and eats the leg of a kid. Surprisingly it's still boring

"Grizzly" isn't bad because it tries to ride the coat tails of "Jaws", it's bad because it's boring and the rare action clearly features a disassembled stuffed bear, apparently they could only be bothered to film it one detached limb at a time.

If I were a clever movie studio executive marketing person, I'd make some ridiculous tagline comment like "The woods have never been more grisly" or "Watch out! You've got a bear behind!". But that would be beneath me, so I can't comment.

This Jaws rip off has some good moments and plenty of bad ones. The bear attack scenes look really fake and unrealistic. The script is not great but there are some exciting moments. Overall this movie is disappointing.

Grizzly has been aptly described as Jaws with a bear (in a park). The bear footage is repetitive and not blended particularly well into the main footage; the same damn paw and mouth shots are reused constantly, and this repetition, combined with the creature's comically exaggerated growls, creates an overall effect that is closer to Ed Wood than Spielberg. But Girdler showed some skill at using landscape, and he really understood how to navigate this schlocky terrain, for better or worse.

The movie feels a lot longer than it should for its topic and for its actual runtime. The characters involved in the story are boring and lifeless with your usual trope of a forest ranger who wants to do the right thing and the bad guy who goes for the easiest and most stupid decision. What I did like about the movie was the gore, actually. It's obviously not very realistic, but it's very brutal for its time. Worth a watch as a curiosity, but it's really not a very good movie.

Probably better than Jaws, you can watch it by fastforwarding to three iconic scenes - the ranger's tower, the horse, and the ending.

Okay Jaws rip-off, but on land with a bear. The attacks are gruesome and there is some tension in the attack by leaving the bear off screen for a large part. But the plot just checks off the genre required dramatic plot points one by one. Luckily it's decently paced so it never becomes too dull, cause after a uninspired dramatic scene it quickly switches to another kill. The likeability of Christopher George and Richard Jaeckel make the mediocre acting tolerable.

Surprisingly gory but also kind of lame. At no point does the bear look anything over 8-10 feet tall, which is still insanely large and deadly. The acting is '70s TV movie quality, the pacing feels too slow even though the movie is under 90 minutes.

Moderately amusing at times, but mostly pretty boring. The gore scenes are so overdone and so crudely fashioned that they seem more funny than disturbing, and shots from the bear's perspective? What? Christopher George seems to feel trapped in this movie and figures his only chance for survival is to act his way out. I like this guy.

Only because it's so ridiculous.

This is a really damn silly JAWS ripoff, but it's still fairly entertaining. The kills come steadily and all of 'em are bloody 'n' goofy (half of the victims appear to be bear hugged until they start gushing blood or lose limbs... oh, and a horse gets its head swiped clean off, hehehe!). The music is actually OK. Overall it's a dumb but fun b-movie.
