"Surviving Summer": another of those voiceover-heavy troubled teenager movies, with a hackneyed class-divide teen romance to undermine the dramatic potential brought by the veterans, Burstyn & Murphy. A better script or director might have exploited the goldmine of two wily grandparents going up against the sassy loudmouth teenager, against a beautiful beach setting. Sadly most everywhere the movie went was unoriginal and felt like a cheap imitation of various better 'yoof' movies. Why bother?

Hilary Duff vehicle sees her 15-year-old Greta dealing with surprisingly adult struggles. It's whiny, emotionally retarded, and downright illogical at times. But I genuinely think that's rather the point.

Go Hilary! I was quite impressed with the film and the fact that Hilary Duff executive produced it too; congrats to her! I am harsh with my numbers but I enjoyed it rather well.

Sure Hilary's got knockers, but just be honest about it: she's way not teens anymore. Not even look like. And the story was not the most original one, but there was a story; the director just was trying more than she was capable of. I liked the animation parts though.
