I'm a bit torn. Both because I was attacked by badgers today, and because I sort of appreciated what Grave Encounters 2 tried to do even though the end result is definitely more miss than hit. There were surprisingly few scares (though one was so effective it made me spill booze all over my couch, thanks jerks) and it's hard not to get annoyed at the cast, but the concept is kinda fun and I love me some semi-sentient insane asylums.

It was a somewhat promising meta set-up, but the complete lack of awareness once they entered the hospital (which, again, itself required a surprising lack of awareness, given that he believes 6 people died in there) really ruins it. The only redeeming factor is Sean Rogerson's return, where he's both surprisingly competent as a character and surprisingly good as an actor, at least relative to the first film.

But I was seriously considering giving it 41. NB. The production company, Death Awaits Cinema Ltd, perhaps fearing a profit-death awaiting their cinema, has been highly litigious when it comes to torrent downloaders of this movie, launching multiple John Doe lawsuits alleging copyright infringement on the basis not only that people download the movie, but that torrent systems mean downloaders should all also be held liable as uploaders. 'Grave Encounters 2' is right: reality IS much worse.

I enjoyed the first Grave Encounters. I loved the cribbed House of Leaves concept along with some decent scares, I didn't love the average acting and some bad CGI in parts. This movie is the same thing. I loved the premise and the self-awareness ("that looks so fake!"), I loved the "ha, you can't escape" part. I didn't like the average acting, again, or the bizarre "I made you guys come here and there's this door" part. It's good enough and was moderately entertaining.

I would just like to point out that these people believed the hospital could suspend time and was haunted yet they still went inside it.

This does what a good sequel should, expand on what came before while staying true to the mythos (and fans). The clever spin/semi-self awareness was done well and something I really liked. As in my rating of the first film, understand that I am a huge mark for found footage films, and I enjoy the hell out of them. This film isn't going to convert any haters of the genre, but I think it will make fans of the first film quite happy.

Succeeds in scares once it gets past a lengthy period of college students being morons (lol, farting on thermal cam....), but never quite gets to the point of one-upping the first in tension.

It's extremely hard to make a successful sequel and Grave Encounters 2 isn't one of them. If you liked the first one a lot you are probably gonna like this one just a bit less. It's still an alright watch.

Feels more like a fan-film versus a real sequel, but the idea of meta-fiction horror is always neato.

I'm really glad I watched GE1, so that I could watch GE2. Someone recommend me more sequels like this movie please.

I like the meta-narrative related to the first film, even though I thought the first was kinda ass. I like a lot of the ideas in this one, both structurally in the film and in terms of scares/tricks with the building. And the theme of filming/exposing truth ties in with that of the first film's subtext about mental health care, especially since things only go wrong for the students when they decide to stop filming and leave. I liked all of those things. But my god does the movie otherwise suck.

The connection to the first movie really does safe this movie from being totally crap. Still manages to be scary but way to slow. It takes 45 minutes to get to the damn hospital. Let's cut some of that excess crap out next time ok? It's not like I ever like any characters in these movies anyway.

What a clever way for a found-footage series to build upon its predecessor. Unfortunately, this movie dragged, had terrible characters, and passed the point of not-scary to almost-humorous. It felt like a three-hour-long movie. Dull.

I was a fan of the first film but while maintaining the self awareness, the setup for this one just isnt as good. It eventually evolves into a pretty decent film but the tone set by the first 30 minutes does not put you in the frame of mind to enjoy it.
