Plot Keywords: erotica | refracting telescope | rowing a boat | doberman pinscher | falling into a puddle | See All (122) » Yeah it’s a Ken Russell alright , just under 90 minutes of devilish decadence , row that boat you teases.

The acting and direction are quite good, and some of the surreal imagery is great, but the story isn't that interesting.

Another of these silly Ken Russell movies. Some British actors pretend to be the Shelleys, Byron, et al., sit around in a big-ass mansion, exchange some silly banter, run around screaming, and some other stuff. Points for breasts w/ eyes for nipples, unseen monsters that inexplicably leave trails of semen, '80s snare, synth, etc. "Rainwater... that catches the moonlight like the trail of a slug!? hyuaghagh, -the odor!-" Maybe the least ambitious of his films I've seen, but I honestly can't tell.

The usual hysterical psychosexual presentation that's to be expected of Ken Russell. It's a mixed bag, to be sure, but keeps you watching.

Haunting look into the troubled mind and soul of Mary Shelley. A vivid nightmare of the fevered sort. Is it all true? Does it matter? Excellent.

A good cast and strong visuals, but a little coherence wouldn't have hurt.

A predictably bizarre Russell. A good-to-look-at but difficult-to-navigate amalgamation of weird images, twisted sexuality, and creepy FX that tends to drag in spots and is limply acted, apart from the radiant Richardson in her screen debut.

Interesting and weird--like everything Ken Russell does, and--like much of Russell does--not really that good.

Nothing happens in this movie.

There are some striking raging-id images and suitably sick sight gags on view but not enough to challenge Russell's own _Lair of the White Worm_. _Haunted Summer_ covers much the same ground.

Completely over the top rendition of one decadent night. Russell is happily back to his old self and Byrne delivers a suitably twisted performance as Lord Byron. And then there's the "tits with eyes"-scene. Nice.
