Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

i can think of at least 20 goosebumps books that would make for great movies in the right hands, but these attempts (plural! WHY) to cram a hundred different references into a single jumanji-lite pastiche are the laziest possible way of reviving the series, and most of the dialogue is witless feces.

Ehn, for the most part it doesn’t have any of what made the first one fun, kinda like a disappointing second child. The Clint Howard of the series. Hi, this is the first time you’ll find yourself longing for more Jack Black.

It was not as good as the first one, I was very bored actually. Nothing new or exciting happens. Acting was not promising either. So there's nothing this movie offers. Just a halloween cliche.

A sloppily made, pale, pale imitation of the original, with next to none of the charm that made it work.

Occasionally pleasingly daft, but overall forgettable.

Much like the first film, this is fun and properly scary in parts. For me, the reduced on screen presence of Jack Black in this second instalment is a good thing - not sure why, but he does not work as R.L. Stine for me, and I'm normally a Black fan - and the greater on screen presence of Slappy is similarly welcomed. However, unlike the first film, the storyline here feels forced (the aim seems to be the more monsters the better) and the finale is a let down.

This wasn't much. I enjoyed the first one and maybe that's because Jack Black had a bigger part. I'd skip it.

The first Goosebumps was already flawed, and this sequel does nothing to course correct, resulting in a film that is almost instantly forgettable. Jeong was the only one who garnered a laugh (or an emotive response of any kind). Lacking both substance and style, this movie feels more like a made-for-TV Halloween special, than it does an attempt at blockbuster cinema.

It's a sequel, with what downgrades comes with that. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween (2018) will still entertain the kids enjoying the first one. At least it did here. I found it watchable regardless of all it's clichés and shortcuts too. Not exactly a deep film, just your average popcorn movie.

This was a cute movie, but I don't think it was as good as the first one. Jack Black was barely in it (other than his voice work). The ending sets up the story for a third movie, so I really hope they make it!
