A girl of limited means and education but possessing a pantheistic sense of the connectedness of all living things and an unrepressed relationship to her own desire is caught between the safety of a chaste, reserved man of faith and the dangerous temptations of an aristocrat with a taste for blood. Extremely beautiful, with a magical, erotic and uncanny atmosphere, great use of location and a fascinating exploration of belief, passion and calculation.
