Wholehearted performance from Matt Mc which are always worth watching. I read up on the true events that inspired this movie after and they are recognisable but there were certainly dramatic liberties taken, most notably the final scene.

Don't analyze and expect "the truth" about business or Wall Street to be revealed. Just watch and be entertained by a good story and approvable performance by McConaughy. *Recommendable

A bit like AMERICAN MADE the following year, this movie possesses the marks and signs of a cynical, ironic adventure in the highs and lows of naked capitalism, but with a screenplay lacking the wit necessary to really conjure the intended sense of gold fever. In fact, the writers seemingly could not resist employing endless narrative clichés, including about the importance of having dreams, where they would have been much better off with a faithful adaptation of the story of Michael de Guzman.

Same feel as the Lincoln Lawyer. McConaughey has a commanding screen presence, and the supporting cast is perfect, too. Beautifully shot and well acted, this is a solid film with excellent production value.

An interesting story that sadly doesn't translate well in 'Gold'. It's all a bit stale and doesn't reach the potential that could have been there. It's an alright film, just nothing more than that.

Never really seems to work as the expose and Wall Street thriller it wants to be, but Matthew McConaughey does succeed at showing the world he can be ugly if he wants to.

Starts out pretty damn nice. Even if it's following this whole recipe of copying other, more succesful movies with the predictable formula of a loser losing, then succeeding and finding that their success is suddenly sinking them to the bottom of the ocean, it's pretty damn entertaining... for about half of the movie. After that it just turns too tedious and long. Still, a decent movie that I mostly enjoyed watching. Could have been shorter.

In this movie it seem that everything is done right and in a classic narrative, but something is off, you can't say what then you realize is a "paint by colors" movie with no character. For example it starts with something that seems like a memory and the motivation for the movie, but then in the middle of the movie it changes to a narrated story done from an interrogation. The movie tries to be many things both but in the end is just nothing.

Matthew McConaughey is good in the lead role in this film. The script does not really cover any new ground. Some parts of the film are interesting. Overall I would recommend this film.

Overall Gold is a look at a rollercoaster of a man's life who drinks too much and just wants to get what's his.

A false alarm first fall from fame and a slow FBI epilogue overshadows the unexpected and satisfying final twist, making for a bit of a messy and bloated third act-a shame because the rags-to-riches tale of the first two was a uniquely, increasingly compelling one thanks to its slightly unconventional editing, active pop soundtrack, and most of all McConaughey's strong central turn as the passionate and erratic prospector Wells (complimented perfectly by the Ramirez's reserved Acosta).

Matthew McConaughey makes a Pacino-esque feast of the scenery in GOLD, a rags-to-riches adventure that tries to walk a fine line between cautionary tale and paean to the rugged individual. Shamelessly ripping off THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, the film nevertheless finds a decent rhythm that keeps it from going off the rails. The final taste left in the mouth is sour, however, as if the movie perhaps believes in its own bullshit.

I can get going to extreme lengths to change one's appearance to get a role that is a guaranteed gem, McConaughey was basically automatically given acclaim for "Dallas Buyer's Club," but "Gold" was a clear gamble. It's a period piece when it doesn't need to be, the guy's overweight when he shouldn't have to be, and it's about the gold mining industry, for god's sake, way to make treasure hunting ten percent less appealing. In spite of all of the head scratching decisions, it wasn't that bad.

Comparisons to Wolf of Wall Street are moot, as Gold works on very different levels. Stunning cinematography, good script, McC does a great McC.

Certainly not a forgettable film, even though I forgot to rank it until two months after seeing it. Fairly standard traditional storytelling, but done very well without much else to get in the way, and not knowing the twist in this real-life story makes it all the more shocking. In all regards, it's well made without bringing anything new to filmmaking. Works as a decent, unpretentious, theme-less coda to the capitalism trilogy of Wolf of Wall Street, Welcome to New York, and The Big Short.

Went into it without expectations and was entertained. It comes with some plot twists you'll definitely expect - but also some you won't. This movie certainly profits from the afterglow of The Wolf of Wallstreet but I think it works decently on its own as well. I'ts definitely worth the watch for fans of Matthew McConaughey's crazy transformations and passion for weird, unpleasant characters.

An entertaining story. Canadians would recognize this as an adaptation of the story about the Bre-X scandal. Worth a look.

Gold ultimately takes a familiar formulae and blatantly attempts to cash in on the success of The Wolf of Wall Street. That said I still actually enjoyed Gold and for the most part I was on board with the melodramatic absurdity of it all. The remarkably committed Matthew McConaughey throws himself into another physically demanding transformation but this showcase performance somewhat overshadows the wrest of the film. There are flaws but in all fairness I was thoroughly entertained throughout.
