After a relatively serious return to business, this next installment adds psychic schoolgirls, scientists playin' god and a behemoth Godzillaflower that spits acid and runs on Girl Power. Despite all this, it's still kinda underwhelming and offers few surprises. At first I was all like 'damnit Biollante, you're useless and also you look dumb' but then later I was all like 'damnit Biollante, you're useless but at least you look kinda cool'.

The pitch alone! 'So lets have Gojira fight a gigantic foe that is part flower, part Gojira himself and part the SOUL of a little girl!' Faced with this madness I'm really at a loss. Does this mean I shouldn't ever visit Japan, or sell everything I own tomorrow and just go live there forever? I just don't know anymore. Things I learned from this movie: Nothing.

Meat vs. vegetables, the outcome is quite obvious, isn't it?

The costume work is better than in any Godzilla film that came before. For the first time, close ups of the creatures enhance the effects rather than reveal the obviousness of the latex and puppetry. Both Godzilla and Biollante look fantastic, oozing with gooey, slimy realism. And the fights are spectacular. I sure do wish we saw more of Biollante though. The plot is bonkers, and that's a good thing. These films are at their best when the filmmakers are free to let their imaginations soar.

The Japanese and their lust for school girl panties and just totally fucking around with Godzilla. The human parts aren't dire and we get some ooey gooey slime fights

G gets maimed and it's totally gnarly but man the badass lookin Biollante is sorely underused, the psychic girls are way underused, and there's only a splash of Ifukube. Basically there's a whole lot of the military vs Godzilla stuff and a ridiculous sideplot about a briefcase with drugs...or guns, or files, or something. I don't know. There's better Godzilla movies.

Plenty of funny B-movie moments and one earnestly spine-chilling moment, but so much boring filler in between. Such a shame, cause Biollante is one of the best Godzilla monsters ever!

Whoa there is a lot going on in this film. Corporate espionage, psychic children, scientists creating life, super x2, and some crazy monster battles. Overall I thought that this was a really cool film. The battles were pretty awesome but I wish there was more Biollante fights. It's such a cool design and made for some neat battles. Definitely recommended for fans of the series and possibly worth showing to non-kaiju lovers.

'80s! Good music, great monster design, but was somewhat disappointing anyway. I liked the build-up and the bad guy's end more than the monster scenes really.

One of the better films of the Heisei series, Biollante is an awe-inspiring opponent, truly beautiful in all its mutated grotesqueness. The final confrontation is spectacular and the score is the pretty good despite it not being Ifukube.

Godzilla meets Little Shop of Horrors. With elements taken from earlier Godzilla films, some spy flicks, meditations on Frankenstein's monster, some pseudo-science ESP, and a sprinkle of hentai, this somehow still is one of the better installments due to the craziness of the monsters fighting. Just don't try to force it to make any sense.

My subtitle file had “ccn news” repeatedly changed into “cnn fake news“, unbelievable keep politics out of godzilla liberal. Using the correct academic definition of liberal, of course. The Godzilla scenes are pretty great, but the human stuff is surprisingly convoluted. Spies robbing assassins, regional geopolitics, and psychic schoolgirls. Nice to see they fixed the goofy eyes of the previous Godzilla, he crushed Biollante. Who starts, btw, as just just an overgrown plant. Ending goes hard.

A Godzilla that fails to live up to its potential. There's a lot to like here, but the film goes in so many incoherent directions and the kaiju battle is a big letdown.

Big improvement over "Return of Godzilla". Fight the flower! Would have been even better if they'd managed to license Bette Midler's "The Rose" for the end credits.

Godzilla with a little gore, and not bad special effects. The other monster was pretty spiffy too.

biollante is a disgusting beast! my 2nd favorite godzilla monster. the plot is cheesy but holds up well relative to other kaiju flicks. just wish the movie had a longer final battle.

Not as good as some of the others, but still WAY better than the American version which should just be left alone to rot. And why the 1981 release date? I thought was it was released in the late 80's AFTER Godzilla 1985
Toe knee :-)
