God's Neighbors

The film follows Avi, Kobi and Yaniv, three young men who belong to the Breslev Hassidic community and place themselves in charge of supervising the codes of modesty, without hesitating to use violence to convey the message. When Miri moves into the neighborhood, Avi is torn between his feelings for her and the codes of the gang. (israelfilmcenter.org)

I have mixed feelings about first-timer Meny Yaesh's script. The dialogue, I thought, was highly impressive, but his plot is blatantly copied from English-speaking films and pasted into an Israeli setting. There are some great individual scenes, especially early on, but as the film progresses the characters and their conflicts are exposed as crudely archetypal, and the plot becomes completely by-the-book and predictable.
