Haven’t seen the original, but Moore’s performance sits alongside her best. A great example of character-as-concept. Each scene/detail gets us deeper into the core of her character. And within this character is a complex idea - the idea of a woman at the stage of change where there is no “next year” or even “tomorrow.” There’s only - “the rest of your life.” What does she need to live? To be happy? Like Cabiria meets Morvern Callar meets Poppy from Happy Go Lucky. Sublime.

What an enormous pleasure to view a picture which takes so seriously the concerns of a single woman in her 50s: finding love again, your children moving away, your body and looks deteriorating, and society in general finding you more and more invisible. Julianne Moore is absolutely phenomenal. There's multiple scenes in this film where I was so moved by her genuine emotion that I could practically feel my heart breaking for her.

At a certain point in life, you'll realize death is dancing in the spotlight and start to omit from routine in search of solitude. Rediscovering the integrity of ‘living' and what it means to be present is captured through the gorgeous lens of Gloria bell.

I saw a trailer for this and was wondering who was behind the moody lighting of the nightclub scenes - turns out, same DP as The Neon Demon. The escalator shot ranks among my favs of the year.

I can't sympathize with her character at all.

The beautiful soundtrack by Herbert adds a lot of sophistication. This is one of the very rare occasions where the music elevates, even carries the film and not the other way around.

such an awkward character study of two middle aged peeps who keep getting it on in every scene. The film has way too much silence used to try and convey loneliness, but it made me not care about the two main characters.

It's the Julianne Moore show. She should get to make a flamboyant character piece like this every 5-10 years just to keep the studios in business.

Same rating as the original; Julianne Moore is a queen.

Sober and contemplative film would be worth returning to, if only for Moore's exquisite portrait of middle-aged malaise; its lack of narrative fireworks feels like a blessing and a curse, in that it challenges Moore to single-handedly command our attention, with the supporting cast save Turturro largely window dressing, though if you don't find Moore's Gloria inherently compelling, there may be little here to satisfy you. Bolstered by some excellent music cues (if occasionally too on-the-nose).

While bad acting can ruin a film, Gloria Bell proves that good acting alone can't make it engaging. I like the cast, though more in their other work. This film felt down tempo and underwhelming throughout. Perhaps it was the LA bourgeoisie or just the perils of a post-middle-aged woman, but I could neither relate nor appreciate anything that happened onscreen. Thus, for me, it just remains a boring experience. I enjoyed the musical choices at least.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Most of that was because of Moore, who is just a pleasure to watch (again) as she juggles complex emotions like the pro that she is. And because she's so good, it elevates the plot itself, which isn't that outstanding as a premise. It's not bad, neither, but without Moore this might have been boring. There are some great musical cues here, as well.

This English language remake of Sebastián Lelio's 2013 Argentinian film is his first film since winning the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for "A Fantastic Woman", though not his first English language film. I liked that film, and this is essentially the same film, but not at all in a bad way. It's a precise and affecting character study about someone finding out how to make their own way in life, and as such, it has a different character to it with different actors.

Boşanmış bir kadın, hayatın monotonluğunda yaşayıp gidiyor. Eve giren kaçak kedi ve hayatına giren bir boşanmış adamla sürdürürken, adamın baskı sonucu kaçması sonucu ok yaydan çıkıyor. Hayat devam ediyor filmlerinden. Julianne Moore yine harika. Ama John Turturro kaçak sevgili rolünü yaşamış. Kurgu ve akıcılığı iyi 1 film. Ben yoruldum hayat gelme üstüme.

Men are weak. This movie is ok. Masculinity is a problem. I didn't like the last shot. It felt forced. The End.

Superbly acted - complex emotions a positive character but tinged with sadness.

We've seen this kind of woman-friendly film over and over again, namely in this film's foreign original, and not much newness gets offered here. The middle centre-piece family scene is the longest and most involved we get in a group of characters, but otherwise, the film tries to piecemeal assemble Gloria's hardly interesting life -- despite some economy of character-building, this is a slice-of-life kind of character study, though with not a whole lot of character growth.

A much less dynamic version of the superior original. If you can stand Julianne Moore, you might like it better...
