In GLOBAL METAL, directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn set out to discover how the West's most maligned musical genre - heavy metal - has impacted the world's cultures beyond Europe and North America. The film follows metal fan and anthropologist Sam Dunn on a whirlwind journey through Asia, South America and the Middle East as he explores the underbelly of the world's emerging extreme music scenes; from Indonesian death metal to Chinese black metal to Iranian thrash metal. It's ok, but a lesser movie compared to the original documentary.

Definitely a noteworthy film for people who are just getting interested in Heavy Metal, or people who want to learn more about the impact of heavy metal in far reaching communities. Enlightening, but the problem with these documentaries is their attempt to give so much information in too short a time. Heavy Metal is an extremely vast genre of music and so much is left out. You can learn more from reading articles and listening to the artists themselves.

Ganske sjov, men for meget fokus på den amerikanske metal - eller det de kalder metal..

Infinitely more interesting than A Headbanger's Journey. Will have to watch it again to properly assess it, as it's been a while, but I remember thinking that it felt like something was missing.

Better than his first but still doesn't reach the level of awesomeness this kind of subject deserves. It's interesting to see the different political climates and how metal comes into the picture. It could have gone a lot deeper with even another half hour but whatever, as it is, this is a good metal docu from someone who loves metal.

Fascinating look at some of the most obscure countries where metal is being made, as well as some of the biggest where metal is practically a way of life at times. Intriguing and clearly crafted by someone who loves the genre.
