another meaningless French film

Totally moving. Wonderful actors.

Witty, enjoyable, escapist romantic drama, done with elegance and style.

Pretty, but a bit empty.

For the first 2/3rds, superb but then it falls away, badly. Requires you to revisit the land of fairy tales (so hard nosed cynics avoid!) and perhaps 30's and 40's movies. Well played but that writing, esp the end, oh dear! I was happy to suspend my natural grumpiness till that last 1/3rd as it was a humourous delight. I'd say watch it but beware.

If you don't fall in love with Vanessa Paradis watching this film, you're made of stone.

A bright, smart, funny little film that, whilst not being all that original, comprised as it is from ideas in old movies in the same vein, it's still a pleasure to watch, principally due to a charming sensibility and quality performances.

After having an entire night and the better part of a day to continue mulling this over, I've decided to increase my rating. There's so little about this film that I didn't out and out adore, from the fresh direction and editing against great black and white photography to the lovely performances to the tone (serious, but coy and funny) to the music and on and on. It's almost a perfect representation of what I love about French cinema.

In this movie Have some Istanbul scenes.

Charming little fantastical love story that won me over with sparky dialogue and likeable leads despite seeming a little like an extended perfume ad.

Very funny and quick-witted beginning, but the movie goes nowhere. In that short opening monologue we meet a very sad and interesting character, but that's pretty much all the depth and development we get for the girl; afterwards it's all pixie smiles and big puppy eyes in magical lucky land. The bridge scene and the first knife act are great. It's just not very exciting after that.
