Gintama

does not translate very well to live action

The movie was very uneven with at least half or more of the jokes and references falling flat. The movie was also way too long and tended to drag quite often. Even though I liked this I couldn't help wishing I was watching the anime.

In short, if you loved the anime you'll love this...IMO & based on the reaction from a group of Gintamaniacs where I saw it in a theatre. If (like me) you thought the anime was uneven (esp in later eps) with bits very good & bits very low, again the live action has those virtues & faults. Is very funny when on song & a very faithful adaption. Technically speaking on that point - 9/10. I have a feeling that if you'd not seen the anime this may be of less appeal. 75 when 75 means OK, + for fans.
