I didn't like it. I just felt zero chemistry between stupid sexy Swayze and tomboy Moore. Her acting in this role comprised of summoning tears. Whoopi Goldberg was the MVP and kept this movie from the pits of sappiness. I was expecting a lot more from all the subsequent cultural references to it. Sweet loft apartment. Fav scene: Whoopi in her fancy fuchsia outfit visiting the banks.

This is a two-hour film that could have been shorter. Felt like there was too much time spent with Swayze figuring out his ghost powers and then trying to figure out his own murder. Ah, but we get some stupid, sexy Swayze. Jeez, what a beefcake. What a hunk! He's so gentle and loving. Gotta wipe myself off with a rag.

I always thought this film was creepy, particularly the end, where Swayze enters Goldberg's body for one last go-round with Moore. I mean, it's still Whoopi's body right? Anybody else besides me got a problem with that?

Pretty sappy and unintentionally hilarious romantic tripe that took the country by storm in the early 90's. Swayze literally comes back in wraith form to do some sleuthing to find out who killed him. Whoopi is in one of those "magic negro" mystic roles that's fairly insulting. Overall it's pretty cheesy but it has a few scenes that are memorable.

There are so many plot holes and early 90s cheesiness in both effects and other areas, but I had a ton of fun with this. I think it largely gets dismissed by many and I actually didn't expect to like it, but I think it's just a good time if you let yourself get into it and can overlook the issues.

Its bad but it's that special kind of 90's bad where its easy to laugh at everything. The dialog is awful, Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore are bad at acting. The pottery scene and every cheesy love moment is laughable with how over the top the cheese is. But there's a lot of foreshadowing and somehow everything that's brought up is used. Whoopi Goldberg is hilarious. And there are a couple of really good shots and scene transitions.

Only after watching this do I realize that it wasn't considered a punchline at the time. That on its own is hard to believe, but... a Best Picture nominee? What? How? It's charming enough in a schlocky kinda way, and Whoopi is great in her silly role, but it's so sappy and ridiculous and unintentionally funny. S'bad. 13th film of 2018.

A misguided jumble of genres: The romance is repetitive (cue the corny love song, awkward medium third wheel ["Tell her..."; "He says..."] and slow touching), the supernatural element is consistently cheesy and visually awful (the dragging to hell and ascending to heaven are particularly distasteful), and the comedy is nothing special (Goldberg is alright but the writing is mostly forced). Leading man Swayze, meanwhile, gives a good effort but it's just hard to take him seriously.

Sam Wheat (Patrick Swayze) is a banker, Molly Jensen (Demi Moore) is an artist, and the two are madly in love. However, when Sam is murdered by friend and corrupt business partner Carl Bruner (Tony Goldwyn) over a shady business deal, he is left to roam the earth as a powerless spirit. When he learns of Carl's betrayal, Sam must seek the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown (Whoopi Goldberg) to set things right and protect Molly from Carl and his goons.

I love it with Whoopi Goldberg but a supporting character does not a solid film make. Talks down constantly to it's audience, and while the merging of genres can lead to interesting scenes the film's frequent jumps from maudlin sentimentality to a witty yet somewhat cynical comedy (with a good dash of silly) to a murder mystery feels jarring enough to remove you from the whole experience. Same with the possession thing, what the fuck?!

Who'd have thought the writer/director responsible for Airplane! could helm a romantic drama so well? As a kid, I loved the notion of being a crime-solving ghost who could interact with the real world; as an adult I also appreciate the (well-played) love story, which teeters on the edge of mushiness but just manages to keep the lump-in-throat short of gag-inducing. There are a couple of eyebrow-raising plot inconsistencies towards the end, but overall Ghost has aged very well indeed.
