Against my better judgement I started to get somewhat excited for this. I assumed the guys who directed Crank would make it as ridiculous as it needed to be, and I do have a large affinity for Nicolas Cage. I was quick to find out they spend more time on a dull story full of idiotic moments instead of filling it with absurd amounts of action. The lone bright spot is Idris Elba, who plays a french priest who loves wine pretty entertainingly.

Stupid, but at times pretty enjoyable. I thought Neveldine/Taylor were a good fit for the material, their energetic madness combines rather well with the Ghost Rider character and Cage's extremely unhinged acting. The by the numbers plot is dragging everything down though, offering preciously few moments of actual entertainment.

One of the only pleasures I get in this world is watching Nic Cage act crazy. And he does not disappoint here. This movie is silly, campy, cheesy and occasionally dark, and it's better for it. It's batshit insane. While some things were wonky, I mostly had a good time here. It was fun and mindless with cool action.

There isn't an original thought 4 miles. 2 call the characters generic bottom-shelf copies would be an understatement. Wrestlers put more thought in2 their badguy personas than the writers put in2 the villains here. The dialogue is equally flat & uninteresting. The only discernible effort on display r failed attempts 2 capture Evil Dead 2-style humor & the stellar CGI, which the director so fetishizes that he even brings the ham-fisted action 2 a halt 4 extended close ups of GR's flaming skull.

Crank duo Neveldine/Taylor occasionally breathe some life into this empty and overly self-serious follow-up to the (fascinating) trainwreck that was Ghost Rider, but ultimately the film fails to justify its existence on any level. No 90-minute film featuring Idris Elba as a badass motorcycle-driving French drunkard should ever be this boring.

It's bland as hell. How does this happen when you've got a character like Ghost Rider (who I admit, isn't the fullest character in the Marvel universe) and guys who are renowned for making fucked up, full of energy action flicks? The story is completely horrible, and the villains are boring on top of being soulless and forgettable. Shouldn't have had high hopes in the first place, but still a massive massive disappointment.

An astounding movie for all the wrong reasons. Good CGI-work and a script that met my (low) expectations aside, this is an assembly of some of the worst instances of (in no particular order): mis-en-scene, cutting, timing & camera angles. It shows a profound lack of even minor proficiency in these regards and the cheap video look didn't help either. This is the kind of skill level that nets you a job on a Marvel franchise? Honestly?

I was expecting a bag of flaming turds with this but I must admit I kind of liked it. It's obvious that Nicolas Cage is hamming it up as usual but more along the lines of Drive Angry. This is done almost in the same deliberately campy spirit as the aforementioned film. Ghost Rider 2 also answered one of many burning comic nerd questions..what would happen if you shot a javelin missile at Ghost Rider or if he took a piss? Worth watching in 3d.

In its finest moments, GHOST RIDER: SoV is a crazed thrillride; the Rider's urine-stream of fire, Ciaran Hinds' enjoyably hammy performance, the welcome presence of Idris Elba, and some choice bits of fiery mayhem. It's not consistently crazy enough, though, and it lags in spots; Nicolas Cage does some of his worst phoning-it-in, and the script is a total mess, not helped by some fairly wretched directing and editing. Still, as crash-bang entertainment goes, you could do a good deal worse.

Well...damn. The first one was junky fun. This one's just junky. It threw me off from the first scenes, and I was never able to get comfortably back on board--it's just such an oddly arrhythmic, haphazard, everything-but-the-kitchen sink kind of mess. I don't know if Neveldine & Taylor were trying too hard, or were too aggressively hamstrung by the PG-13 rating, or if the unnecessary 3D sucked the life out of it, or what, but it just sorta sits there. Elba's good, though.

Ok, it's easy to say lousy things about GRSV, but this is the kind of campy and mad superhero flick I would like to see more often: the cameras are put on the ground, following this former angel riding through eastern european landscapes, setting everything that he touches on fire with bright flames of self-irony. Neveldine/Taylor can't do much with a movie that is meant to be watched by kids and fans, but they actually achieve nice results. The Wish You Were Here homage was beautiful.

Feels like a step-up from Part 1 – Cage seems to be leaning in to the rank silliness of his character this time around, and some friendly faces (Head, Hinds, Lambert) in the support cast make this somewhat lighter on its feet and easier to take. Can’t quite conquer some of the convoluted lore around its characters, leaving a number of moments to just shrug and go along with it; surprising that the usually high voltage team of Neveldine & Taylor behind the camera seem to be sleeping at the wheel!

Spirit of Vengeance is the sequel that Ghost Rider deserved. The first movie wasn't great but there was potential. The sequel could only get better or way worse. This movie ended up being the later of the two. I'll talk about the good points first. I do like the way that this film was shot. It's punk for what we normally get out of Hollywood. It does some things that surprised me in a very good way. I loved seeing Lambert and Elba in this. The bad...Cage's acting, the story, the script, the rest

While Ghost Rider's design and aesthetics are pretty fantastic, and most of the action sequences are good, it just doesn't do it for me. Nic Cage freaking out as he gets closer and closer to transforming is great, but I do wish the plot didn't feel so bland. Easily the lesser of the two 'A Hellbound-spirit-powered Nicolas Cage must chase down Devil-affiliiated people who have kidnapped a child and prevent them from attempting to bring about the rise of the Devil on Earth.'

Good lord it’s more of the same. I like the feel and mood of these movies and the look isn’t awful either, but why do these have to come off as so silly and downright boring? Such a generic story with absolutely no characters worth rooting for. Cage has been on a role lately so I’d love to see him return and actually crush it. I don’t even think he’s the worst part of these movies. He doesn’t have much to work with! Also laughed my ass off once I realized this is the same poster from the first.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance has actors that are too talented to be in it (I'm thinking of Elba and Placido here), a script that gives us a reason for action scenes and nothing much more, and a committed, insane performance by Nicolas Cage. It's a campy, fun movie given to us cheaply by a tag-team of directors who know how to have a good time at the movies. It's not really good, but it's enjoyable and it looks pretty good. This is the Ghost Rider film you should choose to watch.

This film is from a transitional period for Marvel. Where the first Ghost Rider was firmly in the shitty era this one was like a prototype for the now perfected but hollow film production process that gave us The Hulk, Thor, Avengers etc. Less colourful kids comic book but still very much wrapped in adolescent fantasy. It's rough around the edges but there is more competence here than in their previous films. Also, +10 for the demonic bucket wheel excavator, or Bager 666 if you will.

The Crank Bros. (that is their name now) manage to make the movie feel far more bearable than the previous entry, though it never really escapes a direct-to-video feel. The undoing of this movie might actually be that it peaks to early in both imagination and and "kick-ass"-value at about the halfway mark, and consequently the final showdown feels pretty empty, not helped by a pretty scathingly ineffective Satan-as-villain. If you need your dose of crazy-Cage, go here, but consume with caution.

Its suffers from the restrictions posed on directors, not the PG-13 certificate but the fact that its a comic book adaptation that was written by other people and kept under the conventions of this current sub-genre. And yet, both the directors and Nicolas Cage, despite the slight disappointment with the film, manage to have one or two moments shine through. Neveldine/Taylor are glorious hacks that can shake up an action sequence, but can't handle regular human interaction. A skunk-shot script won't help their case either. 'Ghost Rider 2' is so bland and embarrassing that even a few marginally-well constructed action set pieces can't save it. The story and the actors, as well as a direct-to-video aesthetic, kill this sequel---a film that participates in churning the fascinatingly batty Nic Cage and his desperate hair into a has-been-turned-roadkill.

Love Idris Elba of course. The movie gets intense right from the get-go, that kind of silly-intense that Nic Cage pulls off in his sleep. It's way over-the-top a lot but there it is. This isn't a flick that sits on its hands and waits for its story; inside the first 10 minutes, the story is out there with a "fuck this talking, it's burny-burny time" attitude. Neveldine/Taylor were not a good fit, and the result is that even with on paper more competent directors (at least in the style department) this somehow manages to be a worse film than the original, a film to which approximately zero people were eagerly awaiting a sequel in the first place. Cage chews up everything on screen - some of his line delivery in this is truly baffling. Elba was decent, but him and a few enjoyable moments of questionably intentional craziness can't save this wreck.

as expected: awesome action shit (which is just really cool with the 3D bonus), quite badass (not as badass as Crank, though...), the rest is...meh :/
sometimes dumb, sometimes really fun.

For as batshit crazy as it could have been given the people involved, it surprisingly just goes through the motions for the most part. Cage and the filmmakers get a few scenes to let loose and be over the top, but there aren't quite enough to balance out the boring, paint-by-numbers emotional arc and the result is an uneven tone. More crazy please!

Way too different from the 1st movie I just didn't like it.

With everything considered, I definitely think I enjoyed this far more than I should've. It's mindless and trashy, but Nicholas Cage's laughably horrendous performance makes it become the RIGHT kind of mindless and trashy. Also, it has Stringer Bell in it; which is always a plus.
