I felt defeated by Getaway. It doesn't earn the 90 minutes it will be playing on many screens all across the world. It is abysmal in every sense of the word, and it has the magical ability to drain the energy of those watching it. There is one single shot in this film that works, and it stands out so much because of how dreadful the rest of the picture is. Get. Away.

It's phenomenally easy to find something to complain about here. From Hawke being twenty years past his prime, to Gomez's character and her face in general being overwhelmingly punch-able. The half baked concept, the poor attention to detail in the plot. The safe, run-of-the mill stunts. So what does this movie have going for it, then? That's a stupid question, shut up and watch your cartoons, kids.

Let's get the jokes out of the way immediately: "If only I had a GETAWAY car to leave this movie." "Selena Gomez's character, the film equivalent of nails on a chalkboard, made me want to GET AWAY." That said, let's review the multivalence of the title: The villain was planning a getaway. Hawke's character needed to get away from the cops. Hawke's character was getting away from his troubled past. There, I put more thought into this movie than the writers did. Skip this monotony.

Predictable drivel with some un-impressive car chases, which you would expect it to be its strong point considering the genre.

There are just so many problems with the plot. Not surprising the writers haven't written a single movie before or after this. Everyone in it is pretty subpar here, it annoyed me that they wouldn't show Voight's face, and the ending was super cheesy.

Nonsensical, stereotypical drivel. This is a clone of a thousand straight to video stories but it somehow managed to talk some moderate level talent into it. Make a quick getaway before watching this.

remember when bmw made those short film ads that were awesome and action packed? imagine that, but for a shelby, and fucking terrible. bad direction strips away any coherence of the action, which would have been plentiful and satisfying otherwise. hawke and voight are at exceptional lows and gomez is abysmal. i made it through by creating a drinking game -- take a drink every time there's a reaction shot during one of the many chases and hawke or gomez exclaims "shit!"

If Michael Bay decided to direct a Fast and the Furious this would be it! There are alot of explosion and crash sequences which would have Bay reaching for the Kleenex! I had a major issue with the character potrayed by Solena Gomez. Firstly shes annoying and she doesnt look old enough to own a car let alone have advanced knowledge of computer programming! Overal this film is rubbish with a predictable plot, all of the chase sequences look the same and its just incredibly boring!

I actually got so bored during this movie I laid down across three seats in the theater so I could only see a third of the screen and I don't feel like I missed much.

Oh gawd. Just wretched, wretched nonsense. Shitty racing sequences, and you will not frigging believe how bad Ethan Hawke is. I'm not really sure how something as wholly incompetent as this received a major studio release with name actors in the cast, but it's absolutely terrible. Please avoid it.

What can I say. We got ourselves another Cage case - actor kills his career with a movie so terrible that not even recent Seagal movies come close.

Hey, you know what the kids love these days? Car chases & twist endings! So let's make a 90 minute car chase w/ a random twist at the end! Mediocre at best

Monotonously fast-paced to the point of exhaustion, Getaway offers a reminder of the dangers in attempting to speed past coherent editing, character development, sensible dialogue, and an interesting plot.

I enjoyed it. Sure, it was a bit linear as far as the story goes, but it was still a nice, short, fun, movie.

Hawke puts his name above another stinker, this one somehow managing to make a 90-minute car chase bland. There's nothing original about the story, the direction is neither creative nor gritty, and it's full of silly bullshit and dumb clichés. Also, did they run out of budget or was that crap, abrupt ending always on the cards? There's a mesmerising C'était un rendez-vous-esque sequence shot near the finale that this film needed a lot more of.

Getaway is the story of a GPS from hell. Well, not exactly, but it feels that way. Poor Ethan Hawke is beholden to a mystery man who has kidnapped his wife...

Criticker says I'd give this a 0 but damn it's not that bad. In fact, it's not really bad, it's just not recommended. There are better movies to watch. It kind of reminds me of Saw but in a car... meaning when the twist comes around it's kind of like Jigsaws intentions in Saw, if you think about it. Selena Gomez is lovely, Ethan Hawke was fine, and there were some decent moments here and there, but it really just didn't feel like it had a lot of life most of the time and felt a lil silly.

The only positive to be found here is in the unintentional laughter provoked by the preposterous script. You may also find yourself chuckling at the seriously miscast Selena Gomez whose chipmunk baby-face continually undermines any & all of her character's badassery. The rest of the film will be spent pondering exactly how much money Ethan Hawke agreed to take to make a film consisting so exclusively of car chases it makes the Smokey and the Bandit films look like a Robert Altman ensemble.

I can't stop wondering whether it's possible for a heavily armored Shelby Super Snake to drive full-throttle all night and never stop for gas. Maybe Ford is getting better at this whole Green thing than we've been told ...

Movie has only 2 saving graces: 1-1 1/2 minutes of excellent car chase footage near the end (the rest is incoherent garbage), and Selena Gomez who sparkles as is sharp as a tack. With "Spring Breakers", this makes 2 shining performances for her, with two different characters. It was like Ethan Hawke was stuck in first gear coming out of "After Midnight"--so the writers started casting him that way and catering to her.
