Not a no-brain satire like I was expecting, while not really high brow it manages to find an excellent happy-medium. The majority of the jokes are quite funny if you enjoy Steve Carell's delivery, there are a few that are just plain stupid and aren't funny though. Thankfully they're few and far between. The action scenes are surprisingly well done for a comedy, they've got a real Bourne-esqe feel and it works. Totally worth seeing, if you're a fan of the show or if you've never seen it before.

Some impressive stunt work and action sequences. Although it's cheesy and hilarious, it still manages to pay tribute to spy/action films with explosions, chases, shoot-outs and more explosions.

A few standout funny bits (I nearly cried laughing at that perfect in-tree cameo), a few standout not-funny bits (the fat jokes and xenophobia didn't sit well), but mostly just a breezy and easily-consumable action comedy with a unique lead (Carrell's dry delivery really works well with a character that's sometimes the butt of the jokes, and sometimes making the jokes), good central odd-couple chemistry, and solid action sequences. Bonus points for the pacifist conflict resolve on the rooftop.

WFLD Chicago reran Get Smart around noon in the 80's. Along with those limited animation Marvel cartoons that have been surprisingly influential on video games, it was essential lunchtime viewing for AM pre-school und kindergarten me. I love the show like an old teddy bear and own it on DVD just in case I ever get children or stepchildren. It's not a great show, but its charming cast and unapologetically formulaic nature make it endearing. This film sucks.

Yes, it's a little different from the original TV series, but it's a great movie nonetheless, with all the classic Get Smart humour and awkwardness. Everything you'd expect from a spy movie spoof! And Anne Hathaway was gorgeous and very sexy as 99, she got the old "Oh, Max!" just right.

A few good action scenes, a few laughs, and a few excellent actors aren't enough to elevate this beyond dull, predictable mediocrity, or to save it from its own embarrassingly moronic assumptions. M: 40/100 S: 30/100 Mike: Pretty boring. Only good things were basically nostalgic references to shows. Actors did a good job, but the movie tried to be an action movie and a spy satire simultaneously... Sophia: Blah. It was funny in parts (nothing witty, just physical humor), but mostly a lot of blah.

Good new set up for the oldie I used to follow; Agents 86 and 99 remind a lot of their original versions. Some good jokes, but mainly poor storytelling. Anna Hathaway is steaming hot. Unfortunately her hotness does not carry the movie.

It isn't often that a remake impresses me. However, Get Smart did. And, that's probably because of the performances by its leads. Steve Carell is a better Smart than Don Adams was. Where Adams was so outrageously smart-assed with his quip, Carell presents a more softspoken Smart. He's still a bumblehead-but not as loud. The surprise and most delightful part of the movie is Hathaway's portrayal of Agent 99. She's far superior Barbara Feldon. I never thought of Hathaway as "sexy". Now, I do.

Get Smart hits exactly the right tone; Maxwell Smart hasn't been dumbed down or made into a Clouseau. Instead, Carell plays him as an eager, intelligent naif who gets into situations beyond his experience. There are several cameos, but they're the way cameos should be: funny, brief, and truly surprising. The action beats, meanwhile, are produced with skill and always rotated towards comedic satire at just the right angle; save for one clunker of a dance scene, the movie's pretty... well, smart.

Who needs another super agent spy spoof? Nobody. Not now, and not back in 2008. At least this has a decent cast, with Carell's Leslie Nielsen-lite performance working well. The gags appear frequently although most are pretty lame and utterly forgettable; there are a few chuckles contained within and it gets the right tone at least. As an undemanding Sunday evening time killer Get Smart drags itself over the line - just - but you'll never re-watch it.

Steve Carrell brings something special and unique to this remake of Get Smart. At the height of Carrell's popularity, this gem came out. Much of the movie was morphed to fit Carrell's brand of humor and it fit for the most part. Don Adams was also great at playing off the empty parts of the movie and the former Daily Show correspondent plays right into that wheelhouse. Dwayne Johnson is pretty subdued during the movie but likable, as always. The rest of the cast was great.

Meh. The show is miles better. Carrell was a good choice for Maxwell Smart, but Hathaway makes a terrible 99 and Alan Arkin plays his usual angry old man routine. Steve Carell (who plays Maxwell Smart) and crew tip their hats to the series, tossing in a few of the show's original catchphrases and orchestrating cute cameos for Max's convertible Sunbeam and his shoe phone. But what you've got here is the old "use the title so you can grab fans' interest and then give them something totally different" trick. (pluggedin.com)

Silly and fun without being particularly great. A good mix of competence and blind luck for the Smart. Really not bad at all.

Get Smart isn't a bad film, but it's far less enjoyable than it initially seemed like it would be. It starts out really funny, with jokes flying fast and frequently, but they eventually die down to a dull whisper, which coincides with the increase in explosions. Our eyes still have something to look at, and most viewers will probably still have a great deal of fun, but this is a film that loses its luster the longer it goes on. It does have interesting cameos which help keep things fresh.

I was a fan of the original series. I am a fan of quite a few of the cast members of this film, including Mr. Carrell, who knows how to pay respect to a classic character without mocking it (see also his Uncle Albert in Bewitched). Yes, in some ways this is Agent Cody Banks or Clockstoppers with grown-ups in it, but look at the cast; they're barely grown-ups. Much like the show, it's a fun, silly and sweet little diversion.
