This is me doing the "yes, you are all wrong" meme. Far better than your PSI would have you believe, this is a clever, breezy, good-natured comedy with fun performances and some genuinely hilarious scenes.

This is probably the best of its particular breed of late-90s family comedies. Brendan Fraser puts out excellent softboy energy, there are lots of good meta jokes and fun narrative gags, the romance feels genuinely earned, and honestly, African characters getting to openly clown on rich white American douchebags is rare and treasured. It's just fun, and funny, and the fact that Brendan Fraser was chased out of the film industry is a travesty. Definitely show this to kids.

For an adaptation of the cartoon, it was about as good as it could get. Fraser was well chosen for the role of the dimwitted friend to you and me. It's definitely a decent movie for youngsters. Pretty good!

A fever dream of late-‘90’s nostalgia. It’s really (really) hard to get Live Action Cartoon right but this swings awfully close. Imagine a combination of a guy in an ape suit voiced by John Cleese playing chess, right up against a bunch of San Francisco women swooning over a shirt/less Fraser with a horse, and the whole tonal dichotomy of the ‘90’s is plain as day. The ‘90’s are what your parents will allow vs what you can get away with. Thomas Haden Church marries himself to an ape.

Middling, plotless mess is worth an extra 5 points to hear Cleese’s legendarily awful singing voice, and while the rest of the film is too scattershot and clunky to work, it does have some minorly amusing moments, especially involving the local wild-life. Fraser is a reasonable George, though one can’t help but think he is just repeating ENCINO MAN; Church probably fares best as the foppish fiancée (was Cary Elwes busy?) No game changer, but a pleasant diversion.

As a satirical look at Tarzan, as a fun family flick, as a platform for the sexiest five seconds ever rendered to VHS (that running-with-horses scene at the engagement party … wow), it works. It's just … hilarious. It really is.

It's a little too cheesy at times but it's cute and one of the better kids' movies from the mid 90's. I'm not sure how or why someone thought the cartoon was worth adapting to live action though.

This is a fun kids movie that is mostly faithful to the classic cartoon. The script does not take it self seriously. Brendan Fraser excels in the lead role. The supporting cast are also good here. Overall I would recommend this movie.

I'm a bit torn on this: on one hand it's pure garbage - a dumbed down 90's Tarzan, but it's so dedicated to its madcap/meta style that I have to respect it for that. It has some nice location cinematography, it's only 90mins long and the kids seemed to love it. It also stars a future Oscar winner and another Oscar nominee as the baddie, so I guess It's not all bad.

Might only amuse some animal-loving young children. I watched it many times as a kid and already then there were moments I didn't like or found embarrassing by proxy. It's worse for an adult audience. At least though the fake-looking gorilla costumes looked better than the damn 2016 Tarzan's CGI mutant gorillas, hehe

Brendan Fraser at his finest. Disney pokes fun at their own take on Tarzan, leading to a wholly silly comedy. Come for the self-parody, stay for the mix of puppets and 90s CG animals.

It is by all accounts a kids slapstick movie. But between all of the lame physical comedy there are some seriously great lines and moments of brilliance. Almost everything the narrator says is gold and Brendan Fraser is a certified HUNK.

Mistakes - 1) In the scene where Lyle and Ursula slide through the river then over the falls, when they go over the waterfall they are both dry. 2) When George is in Ursula's apartment after his shower, Ursula covers his behind with a bowl, saying "Cover the booty", but her lips dont move.
