The great Colin Firth can, of course, be relied upon once again, but the rest of the film isn't on his level of excellence.

A movie for older actors, with slow gorgeous scenes and acting and monologues. Not for everyone but I really liked it.

This film is amusing enough if only for both Jude Law and Colin Firth's 'drawl' type US accents alone!. Its an interesting story and its pretty well told - all the mentions of F Scott Fitzgerald intrigued me. By the end it was quite movingm if perhaps a little pretentious maybe. Not an entirely stand out film but a decent enough film, this is worth a watch if it really interests you, yes, I reckon so.

They gave it the same treatment that "Pride and Prejudice" got with the Kiera Knightly version: every scene over-acted, every character a pile of compulsions, lots of emotion, almost no coherent appreciation for these men as people or intellects. This could have been an amazing movie, and instead it was a painful watch that dragged on until it mercifully ended without making a clear point.

Not as good as I wanted it to be when it came out, but not as bad as many of the reviews. A solid 'fair'...

A movie raised a bit by the nice chemistry if Firth and Law, but still not anything great. Basically everything that didn't involve them together felt melodramatic which doesn't work great in what's supposed to be a biography. The dialogue took me a bit to get used to as it's much more poetic than how most people talk, but maybe these literary guys did talk like that and I'm just some caveman who reads Stephen King books.

Several fine performances, including Jude Law's best in a good while, in an interesting story that would have been much less interesting if one attempted to slog through the written history, much less the novels, it deals with. Dialogue is excellent, spiced up as it is with poetic and profound high points from Wolfe's writing--a filtering service I greatly appreciate.

It's absolutely fine. But that's it.
