The pacing here is much better than with the anime. The violent, nudity and the angst is toned down and while it doesn't ruin the film it does make it a little less engaging and engrossing than the anime. Overall I'd have to say I enjoyed this version better than the anime and I'm looking forward to checking out the other films.

Faithful rendition of the - imho - weakest arc in the Gantz canon (sadly, probably also the only one most people will be familiar with, because of the anime series). Acting-wise, your usual schtick of ohhhs, ahhhs, moaning, groaning, sighing and awkward (meaningful?) open-mouthed pauses the japanese are so beffudlingly fond of. Solid overall, and all the more puzzling how one could so horribly butcher the english dub. It's like a joke rifftrack, pure YouTube material.

I don't know if reading the manga would change my expectations, but I thought this was a lot of fun! It makes you wonder why this is happening, what the hell is going on? I can't wait to see the next one. The bosses were cool, I liked the music, I liked the acting, I liked pretty much everything. It felt like such a video game, and in that way it made it thrilling. What I like is that it doesn't pretend to be something it's not... movies can take place in unrealistic worlds. Gantz embraces that.

It's fun at times and terrible at others, just like the original manga was sometimes fun and sometimes really stupid. I do wish the direction was a bit more stylish and that the dub wasn't so terrible. Overall, a guilty pleasure.

Although the writers craft romantic subplots that suggest they still view females the same way they did when they were 10, & repeatedly have characters fail 2 shoot their guns when they have no reason not to, the first hour of this is structurally brilliant & engaging - not least b/c they get the hot girl in2 shiny leather first. They present what could've felt like just another high-concept, comic-book-y plot as a dream-like mystery, & one that becomes more compelling the more answers r given

I was pretty excited when I heard my favourite Anime was made into two movies. The first hour of this movie was pretty cool, nice animation and stuff, but the second half was quite disappointing. It was difficult for me not to compare this movie with the great Anime. Because of the 'careful' Japanese filming style, it lacked the emotional punch like I felt during the series

If you judge it on its own, this Gantz film is pretty vague and rushes past the content without giving any answers. I saw the anime series, and for me it was fun to see some of its elements recreated in live-action form. Sometimes pretty nicely, too. It cuts out a lot of filler from the series, which is very welcome. It also doesn't spend time on drama or deep analysis, which makes the film a bit too superficial.

Lots of great eye-candy and fun sci-fi elements and themes. It could have been better - maybe a good editor could have gotten this down to a lithe 90 minutes and kept a better pace. This is one of those movies where you are really just waiting for the next set piece.

I gave this a lot of patience because the premise seemed full of possibilities, but boy did this movie run through that patience and keep on going. The action scenes are particularly forehead-slapping, so much that I scoured the Internet looking for some rational explanation -- something I missed, or something from the manga that wasn't explained in the movie. I was just worried about my sanity. Nope, I didn't miss anything; the movie's really like that. Well, at least the enemies were cool.

The dub was unwatchable and completely ruined Ninomiya and Matsuyama's performances. The sub was kitschy at times, but ultimately awesome.

Great adaptation, as far as following the manga almost panel for panel. Didn't care much for the kid who plays Kurono, and was sort of disapointed when they switched the second mission's setting from a waterway to a parking garage, but these are minor gripes considering this doesn't have half the corniness anime adaptations usually do.

Passable entertainment, but extremely watered down in the gore and nudity department. The FX are fine but all the epic parts/details from the manga are missing.
