A very solid cinéma vérité film. We're given different, varied real perspectives on gang life through surprisingly natural dialog. Both the futility and necessity of this type of life are addressed with authenticity, and the inner hierarchies and moralities reveal themselves as characters do. The ending is far too dragged out and heavy-handed, though, unfortunately. This film is really underrated.

While the home-video/found-footage style of filmmaking is usually reserved to horror movies, Gang Tapes is far scarier than most of them through its behavioral and social realism alone. It has real life's illogic, and portrays violence as it truly is - untouched by poetry or justice.

so gangster. the actors are very convincing and the hand held camera perspective makes everything seem almost too real. When people die its almost awkward watching it.
