One of the better Gamera films. The story surrounding the monster mayhem is one of the best in the series. But here as in most of the films in the franchise the biggest downside is the kaiju fights themselves. Pretty much all the monsters, Gamera included are very static and don't move much or well, the movements a slow, simple and awkward. There's actually some really nice tracking shots in this one. Then there's all the other traditional Gamera ingredients: children who are way smarter than adults, ridiculous monster powers, misspelled/badly punctuated/missing altogether subtitles, and this time around, ancient Mayan curses and an expedition...inside Gamera himself!
