This was a really good time. McAdams and Bateman are both pretty funny and they play a wonderful couple. The whole concept of a friendly game night is used to the movies advantage of the screenplay but also the directing. Really funny comedy that doesn't drag or get bogged down by crude humor. It's balanced out well and the characters help make it very entertaining. Worth a watch if you want a comedy that's actually funny and enjoyable.

Pretty generic, disposable comedy--the kind that Bateman seems married to at this point in his career. As with most of its ilk, there are a few decent jokes and nothing abnormally horrid, but I'm sure I'll have forgotten about it six months from now when the next completely disposable comedy comes out.

About half of this was fun and humorous but also a lot that felt forced. The action is very fast paced. Good cast. Rachel McAdams is awesome and Jason Bateman also stands out. Some of the dialog was a bit cheesy. The premise was somewhat clever, but the gag is stretched pretty thin. Fun and effective with plenty of excitement and action.

Surprisingly funny. I expected this to be just passable, but it had consistent good laughs and even had some absurdist humor that was unexpected. It is also really thoughtfully directed, something you don't see or expect from an R-rated comedy like this. I hope to see Lamorne Morris get more work.

Keeps things fresh, to its credit-the plot and humour don't rely solely on the initial premise of dramatic irony, the characters are funny but develop depth too (see dumb, cocky Ryan's vulnerability in the van; big shot Brooks' pavement penitence), and the cinematography takes creative turns (see the game-board zoom-ins, one-take egg exchange)-even if the choices don't always work (the third act has one or two too many twists; the dark comedy isn't always funny-see Annie's "Oh no, he died!").

Because of its wide-open premise, Game Night actually works very well as a movie. There's a lot of good dark humor as well as surprisingly well-developed (though not deep) characters due to its focus on each of its couples. Towards the film's climax, multiple plot twists make the story almost fall apart, even though they have good setups, but that doesn't degrade the film much; it is still a very entertaining and funny movie.

Went into this one mostly blind, not really knowing much of what was to come. And really I think that was to my benefit, because everything was fresh and as such, really really funny. This is just the movie you go to if you want to laugh, and I did plenty of that. It's a pretty bright script that I actually don't think lost any steam at all. There's a lot of schlock in this genre -- some real unwatchable garbage -- and maybe that skews the rating of it, but Game Night is one of the good ones.

Game Night's premise is it's greatest asset. The plot is a little more complicated than it needs to be, especially towards the end. However, the majority of the jokes do land and are set up surprisingly well, even if they run a little longer than expected. Bateman and McAdams do demonstrate solid chemistry and I found them to be very relatable. Game Night isn't game changing (see what I did there) but it's solid. In a move industry today where most comedies are meh, this once stands out.

A totally disposable weekend pleasure but superb fun. Can't imagine this type of film being done much better. Scoring it simply versus its direct competition as a zany comedy I'd give it 97%. Because I value and 'get more' from other types of film I'll give this a well deserved 84%. If you want a laugh outloud, charming, fast paced, feel-good film about sibling rivalry, kidnapping, insane competitiveness and deranged schemes this is the film you are looking for.

Like the Ed Wood of comedy writing, Mark Perez's "Perfect! Print it!" approach to the first punchline that pops into his head means string after string of lame, instantly forgettable, eye-rolling 'gags' that would feel more at home being pulled out of Christmas crackers. The cast are game (although McAdams irritates) but the script is so insultingly awful that eventually you give up and just stare blankly through the screen. It's not 'Sex Tape' bad, but it aint far off.

Bateman and McAdams have amazing chemistry and the rest of the cast compliment them nicely most notable Kyle Chandler and Kylie Bunbury. The jokes were refreshing and smart. It carries a good pace through out always keeping the plot on a focused path to the end goal. A good fun raunchy comedy that has a solid premise and a phenomenal cast.

Game Night is really funny, and that's enough to make it worth seeing. If you like comedies, this is a good one, especially in an age where so many of them are awful. If you're here for a ton of ambiguity given its premise, you'll be disappointed, as is also the case if you're hoping for thematic depth or strong characters. But if you want jokes and gags? You've come to the right place. It's hilarious from its opening moment to its credits. It's entertaining and hysterical. And that's enough.

I knew nothing about this before watching and as it unfolded I thought it was perfectly setup to be a scrumptious version of 'Carnage' with competitive couples trying to out do each other in board games in a single location. Instead it was a convoluted multi location mystery which didn't work as well even though the laughs kept flowing here and there. McAdams plays her role perfectly and I'm not a Bateman fan but he matches her here. Plemons is the MVP of course, with bonus points for Olivia!

doesn't entirely work well as a comedy for large stretches — despite eschewing a lot of awful modern tropes, it still leans far too heavily into pop culture references — but, oddly enough, the comedic tone works far better for this kind of paranoia thriller than something like Fincher's "The Game," in which the inherent absurdity of the premise can't be masked over with any sort of internal consistency. It really works very well here, even if all of the pieces don't quite match.

I had a pretty good time with it. It's one of the better comedy movies I've seen in a while, for sure. It was actually funny, for one thing. The cast was pretty solid. Jason Bateman is the best straight man around and he and Rachel McAdams had good chemistry together. Jesse Plemons was also a lot of fun. Game Night is surprisingly fun with its blend of self-irreverent humour, silly slapstick and (in the best way) a ridiculously convoluted plot. The cast work well, and it's a nice change from seeing Seth Rogen in a film like this. It's not a complex nor deep film, just an action-comedy done right.

Strangely, I didn't find this all that funny. Instead I thought it was a great whodunit mystery where the audience is barely keeping pace with the characters as they uncover each twist and turn. Jesse Plemons, the cinematography (those car chases!) and Cliff Martinez's smooth, creepy score are the highlights here. Bateman and McAdams do a great job holding the ensemble together, too.

This is the first time that I have found Rachel McAdams likable, and she does a lot of heavy lifting. Jesse Plemons is a major highlight, and Jason Bateman showcases his non-smug funny side. They could have fit more jokes in, but the best jokes were really solid. (disappointed that the "We wont need any extra rudeness either" line from the trailer was cut) The true appeal is the affable cast and heavily stylized genre mixing. Fun.

What a cynical and lazy movie Game Night is! Always commenting on it's own jokes, structures and decisions. So either you think it's funny and than the movie can say: Look, how funny we are", or you don't think it's funny and the movie says "We know, it's bad, that's why we commented on it". Boy, this movie buys insurance for every creative decision it makes. While it pumps Cliff Martinez through the speakers and product placement through our brains. Again! GN is lazy and fucking cynical.

The definitive Hollywood action-comedy, in that the comedy is a mirthless series of clunky, self-referential zingers in the conversational Hangover-lite style and the action somehow lacking all ambition and straining believability at the same time (didn't the completely harmless gunshot wound go extinct sometime in the 90s?). The quirky and honestly pretty charming credit sequence leaves the viewer on a positive note, at least.

a movie that hates its characters to the point of exhaustion (the alternative is they actually think there's value in these formulaic character arcs and references to pulp fiction and fight club, so let's be generous here), and on that we're in agreement. i will at least get behind the final non-twist fincher burn, and Gary in general. devote a sequel to his character study and i'll tune in; thunder road proved there'll never be too many entries in the unhinged sadsack cop dramedy subgenre.

Whereas a lot of Hollywood comedies tend to shelter under the safety of a one-note logline (easier to sell that way!), GAME NIGHT is comparatively daring, allowing the ebb and flow of its humor and its character conflicts to dictate its course. Why does it feel like every comedy from a major studio has to be cut with a big dose of after-school-special cheesiness? Why do the characters have to learn some lesson? Why do you have to weave in some Big Deal Adult Issue(TM) throughout? It has some good jokes and the initial conceit is entertaining, but eventually it just fizzles out into the same cookie-cutter bullshit big movie studios have been churning out for years.

We live in an age where most half-way informed people are peripherally aware of Settlers of Catan or other "modern" board games. The fact that game night was all Monopoly and Pictionary and the like shows that those powers that be responsible for the film have no idea what game nights as an adult are like nowadays. I say this as a guy that routinely has a game night with other married couples. Other than that, the film switches gears one too many times for me, but is passable as a comedy.
