Future by Design

As a film, the whole production is on par with one of those self-help videos shown across the US in YMCA gyms by middle-aged men who have turned their lives around, and want to help you do the same. As for content? Well, you know that old coot who lives down the street? The one that's always yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off his lawn? Now imagine that guy as an architectural savant, and that he's yelling at you to stop having opinions because in the future, they'll be useless.

When it comes to the design of tangible things; buildings, transportation and tools, Jacque is about as brilliant as they come. His designs are highly optimized and pretty damn efficient. As for what it would take for society to get to the point where such design could be a possibility... now there's a debate. When you view existence as just being a technical / mechanical entity, like Jacque does, you tend to over simplify the grandeur of how fucked this world really is. Maybe in 500 years...

Interesting documentary about a little-known individual with very big ideas. It paints him as more important than he actually is, but it's still worth the watch.
