It takes nearly 150 minutes before someone calls Barbara Streisand "funny girl". Should have happened sooner. I like the character, and the music, but everything else is a long dull experience.

Barbra Streisand's singing is stunning - never rains on her parade!

Steisand is gloriously hilarious. She deserved the Oscar 100%. Although the last half of the film starts to drag but some of the musical numbers are quite spectacular.

Mixed songs, uninteresting characters and choppy narrative make this very forgettable. Great color photography.

Narratively it's a little dry but Streisand gives it real socks.

First time watching this. Very impressive! Not only great musical and dance numbers but an interesting plot.

The first half of this is outstanding. The second half is fine, but doesn't match the first. Streisand was perfect casting in this and I liked how it felt a lot like a musical from the 30s.

"Funny Girl" is a love story that also happens to be a musical displaying Streisand's amazing talent. It's rare when the story in a musical can hold it's own with the music.

The annoying central character badly damaged a film with some potential to ask some challenging questions about Patriarchy.

A movie from a musical, based partially on Frannie Brice's life. The first half is a comedy and love story, but the second part gets a little lost when it drops those elements. Enjoyment of the movie depends on whether you like musicals, and whether you like Streisand's singing. Best lines, though, come from Christmas Vacation's "Aunt Bethany" (Mae Questel).

The first 40 minutes are priceless, but the rest is mellow romantic porridge..

Gets far too long in the third act - there should have been about 15 more minutes left in the movie after Barbra's (iconic) performance of "Don't Rain on My Parade," but instead there's about an hour of watching Omar Sharif's slow, inevitable downfall. Despite the pacing issues, however, this is arguably Barbra Streisand's greatest role ever, with some absolutely glorious songs (The closer, "My Man," may be the best performance of a single song I've ever seen in a movie musical).

Tuneful musical suffers from a bad case of overlength, and a Streisand performance which veers too close to wincing abrasivesness far too many times, especially during her backstage patter with the other people in her life; however she undoubtedly brings a fiery energy to the song score. Sharif fares much better as the charming but ultimately pathetic gambler; Wyler's stunning use of the wide aspect ratio and the gorgeous set-design and colour photography help offset many of the film's problems.

Stretched a bit thin but Streisand is delightful, singing and cracking jokes, and has a good dynamic with Sharif. If it were a little tighter it'd be great but as is it's really good entertainment.

By far the better of the the two 'Funny' films .. Streisand is brilliant and the movie has some great set pieces (roller skating scenes) and really funny lines and performances. If you're going to try either films make sure it's this one.
