Fudoh: The New Generation

Entertaining and not shocking at all, so I put it in the category of action-comedy.

Works as a badass, stylish Yakuza movie, and an absurd, hilarious, grotesque parody of same. It's a total blast, I had a great time.

Early Miike that's pretty barebones cartoonish yakuza violence, with a sucky little plot, but it's slight enough you can sort of follow it and get a sense of who is who. If you watch stuff like Dead or Alive first, this comes off as a rough sketch though.

Miike's control of tone here is very good so that even when it does shift reasonably suddenly it really works and his sense of humour works well. It isn't perfect - the ending doesn't really work and some plot points could do with either being cut completely or explained more - but still it was really good fun.

Miike starts getting freaky ideas, shooting poisoned arrows from your intimate areas...

Miike exists in his own special place where things are allowed to suck and own simultaneously. Always a treat I kind of regret, but not really.

Um dos filmes mais "gore" de Takashi Miike, os moleques assassinos, a mulher que atira dardos com a xereca, a cena inicial onde um yakuza morre de tanto vomitar sangue resumem bem o que é esse Fudoh. Um exercício de experimentação da parte de Miike.

Another wacky good time from Miike, there's a great spin placed on this story. I love everything about the gal with "special gifts" as it were, and Miike's sense of humor abounds. I'm always waiting in anticipation for the gay jokes, and there's a good one in here.
