It has its moments (random '80s ballad!), but overall it's just not as fresh or compelling as the original (which was already overrated). I maintain that Elsa should have been the villain of this franchise - it could only have made her more interesting. Hopefully Frozen 3 has the Arendelle citizens rebelling against the grossly incompetent Queen Anna.

The "Frozen" movies are the candy coated, ultra-trendy, transiently relevant movies of Disney's current offerings. They are the kid's version of the big dumb action movie--and while that's entertaining for a time, it's also disposable. It fits the same template as all of the princess classics. It's a comfortable, familiar, phone-in installment in an age where that no longer cuts the mustard--in spite of this, and because of this, it passes the time just fine.

I'll actually be the odd one here and say I thought it was good. It's not perfect. The story isn't as interesting as the first and most of the music isn't nearly as memorable. Although, Into the Unknown IS the new Let It Go and I can't stop singing it. However, I did love the performers and the animation is absolutely gorgeous. I also thought the ending was very satisfying. Think of it as more of an essential epilogue than a direct sequel and you'll probably enjoy yourself. I like it

As one of the few who didn't care for the first film (don't hurt me), my expectations were low - but I was pleasantly surprised. It could be because I'm currently re-reading Eliade's "Shamanism": the story on the surface looks like a lot of pretty colors and bombast, but Elsa's Mystical Quest is textbook Initiation and Vocation. They thought a lot about it, there is care in the telling, and it's deeply effective in its context. And I vote Olaf's "When I'm Older" as the official anthem for 2020.

Take the fact that I watched this with my 4-year old on her first trip to the cinema as a grain of salt with my assessment of both the film's flaws and strengths: the plot's hard to follow (thanks for the running commentary, dear daughter) but damn if it wasn't just a magical experience (that look of awe on her face I'll never forget). A beautifully animated tapestry of mysticism, memory, music, and humour with a great set of characters (see the surprising but appropriate resolve to Elsa's arc).

When the music stops, Frozen 2 ends up being a great technological marvel with no character development and low stakes, making it a relatively boring film. Thematically there seems to be a lot more to explore with the ideas of colonialism and indigenous peoples, and the fact that those didn't go just a touch further was disappointing. The soundtrack is stellar, and some of the numbers are worth watching as well as hearing, but this definitely doesn't live up to the original's wit and vitality.

Narratively the whole thing hangs by a thread. But honestly I thought this was very cinematic and it pushed the characters along just enough to hold adult interest. My kids were literally living every moment of this in the cinema, so in that respect Frozen II very much gets the job done.

Tolerable, beautifully animated, with a pretty decent ending, but the story picks up more strands than it can handle. What it comes down to is this: after watching this once, my three-year-old has no interest in seeing it again, and while watching the original another three times.

The story wasn't great, but the songs were pretty good and I laughed harder than I care to admit at Olaf. The whole point of the first movie was that Elsa couldn't do everything alone and she somehow has to learn that again...

Sometimes a happy ending is okay, as long as you still tear down the dams of colonialism. Starts unremarkably, but finishes very strong. Gorgeous environments and women, darn it! propel the movie higher than its predecessor, and a few engaging musical numbers certainly don't hurt.

The story manages to somehow simultaneously be a bit too simplistic (“here’s our sequel pitch: the Frozen crew goes on another adventure!”) and hopelessly convoluted. Half the music is quickly forgettable. But that said the other half is pretty catchy and it is nice to spend a little more time with a set of characters who have immediately become an iconic part of the Disney cannon. Olaf’s 1-minute summary of the first movie is the best scene.

I totally support the film's praise of a reconnection between humanity and nature through magic. Too bad the plot doesn't actually help. Songs sound good and engaging, but serve as mere accessory to move the story forward -- also, I didn't get why some of those were so 80s glossy and shit, but that's ok. I'm not sure about how it moves -- not in a smooth way -- but I like the few action stuff -- the sea scenes, the rock giants. Disappointing.

Liked the first one, but it didn't click for me. This one is just weak: filler plot, bad songs, zero character deveolment. Technologically, it's great but that alone is not enough. Also, Olaf is as terrible as before.

The animation in Frozen II is stunning, sadly every other aspect of the film is severely flawed. The musical numbers occur far too often, jump genre too much with no solid purpose, and are far less memorable (though some may argue this is a good thing). Anna felt like a mouthpiece for moral platitudes. Kristoff was side-lined, and Olaf was just annoying. Elsa has an interesting story but, being overpowered, is frozen out of the climax. It may not be her movie, but it's to the film's detriment.

Frozen was in no way Disney's best film of recent years, and it didn't really want for a sequel any more than any of their other films. This looks like a cash grab, and it kind of is, but on some levels it actually exceeds the original and I almost think this might be a slightly better film. Maybe partly because - as mentioned - the original wasn't really all that. Olaf is great in this.

(Rewatch: less depth) Beautiful animation but the story was a real let down. Deep sins of the past washed away with ease and built-in distance. The townspeople are really being taken for a ride by this family. Love story needed more depth and was seen at times such as Anna's playfulness with Kristoff, but then the movie just skips past all that. The spirits got boring. Fav scenes: references to the first movie such as Elsa being disgusted with Let It Go and especially Olaf retelling the story.

Although Frozen II strains to widen the scope of the story and introduce a bevy of new characters, nothing really adds up or makes sense and none of the new cast additions contribute anything to the plot (and barely make any kind of impression). Besides that, this definitely bores more often than it engages, with the humor far more hit-and-miss than in its predecessor (not to mention bizarrely meta and self-referential) and its more solemn second half doesn’t quite come together.

Acknowledging and attempting to address colonialism and genocides of indigenous people is no doubt necessary and long overdue for everybody, including media companies. But it doesn't make for very good children's movies. However the scene with Olaf recapping the plot of Frozen is pure comedy gold and should be cut out, released as a standalone short and submitted for an Oscar.

Sequels are tough to make but I thought this did a great job in exploring the characters' past, to move forward. Much like the first one, this one has a deeper point; this time about the actions of past generations. Not to mention the fact that this has some delightful songs (Kristoff and Olaf's) and "Into the Unknown" really grows on you, and the alternate versions are very good.

surprised to find a dynamic exploration of yearning, defeat, self-awareness, love, and growth. doesn't quite precision focus on a theme, which is a plus for me -- while there certainly is an overall arc, characters have to tackle emotions as they arise, like the highs and lows and setbacks of real life. The lack of focus does mean it's not extraordinarily deep, but I think this variety of personal challenges and poignant, relatable lyrics will be great for kids and even stoic adults like myself.

Good sequels take the foundation of their original work, then reveals their flaws and limitations through improved understanding and perspective. Lesser sequels, on the other hand, makes us yearn for what made the originals excel. Frozen 2 is strongest when it hits the same beats the original did, and like any good song, it hit harder the first time you heard it.

Pretty cheap and obvious cash grab. It's like they re-used the plot of some 60 minute Barbie movie and warmed up some Frozen leftovers as filler. That 80s teen hearthrob song was the only genuinely funny thing in the entire movie. I'm a big fan of Frozen. Which is why I'm so disappointed in Frozen II. :( Frozen is a story about sisterly love. They made each other stronger. Frozen II reduces it to melodramatic kitsch, where they're useless without each other. They were women, now they're girls.

It was a step up from the first one where it placed more on the world at stake and less about interpersonal drama within the characters. It dives a little deeper into history with the background information and is visually impressive right from the get go. It falls short in the third act when it becomes the neatly tied up adventure movie with a happy ending for all involved. It could have been more real closer to the end and less about the fairytale ending.

It's not as smart, significant, or timeless as the first film, and not as memorable either, but the feeling of being back in the world of Arendelle with the characters I've loved for so many years now makes it impossible for me to really go that hard on this. The story is cluttered, the worldbuilding is off, & the final twist extremely predictable, but the characters & the great voice performances are what save it. Elsa in particular shines, but so Anna & Kristoff. All in all, worth the wait.

I absolutely hate and despise annoying wierdly-pitched side-kicks that usually offer nothing more than padding to the run-time. But darnit if this wasn't Olaf's movie. More energetic and pitched at an older audience than Part 1, this is a surprisingly robust and even dark-spirited follow-up, with a fine voice cast bringing life to the excellent animation (Gad's philosophical, C-3PO-like musings are a highlight). Catchy song score is a definite plus, and the decision to stage much of the film as an old fashioned Broadway style musical (replete with dramatic soliloquies for all the main characters) is a nice touch.

I think this was a successful sequel: It provided a new adventure in new surroundings for the familiar characters. It's a bit darker but IMO not too much to alienate the youngest fans. As a Finn, I enjoyed the familiar looking vistas and the portrayal of Sami people. As for the soundtrack, perhaps there are no instant classics or anything to challenge "Let it go", but it's a solid collection of songs and at least our daughter has been playing it on repeat. I could definitely watch a third one.

For such a flagship title, it was bland in every way except for the quality of the animation. I always think that what made first Frozen so successful was the breaking away from Princess/Prince format and focusing on sisterhood. This one tried to went in the direction of "Family skeletons in the closet" but the setting is not robust enough to carry such a serious subject; thus it ends up being a series of well-executed animations.

A surprising amount of heart for a movie that you can see Disney's love for money in. Every main character gets their "Let it Go" song, which are luckily all great. Anna becomes more of a focus (she famously didn't sell as well toy wise. so the kids are missing those) but she is a strong character and Kristin Bell is a better VA than Idina Menzel. Olaf gets more screentime but almost every one of his jokes lands. The main problem tho, the stakes are low and the movie never hits an emotional peak

The music in the movie's a good poster for the rest of it: it hits some right notes and chords and has its moments, but it's surrounded by confusion and less memorable parts. The movie's setup leaves problems: how did that group survive all those years in that small space given what's going on? How does the magic work? Who closed off the forest? Does no one really note the fact that Elsa has to learn the same lesson twice, in some ways? Not nearly as good as the first, sadly.

It's fine, a decent sequel to Frozen, and at least it wasn't predictable and elaborated on the origin of Elsa's powers. You could take your kid to much worse than this,so two little thumbs up.
