Be aware that this was a play. One put on screen without much effort in transforming it something visually splashing. Friendly Enemies (1942) is very much trapped in it's written format and has to be enjoyed in that way. Charles Winninger & Charles Ruggles run with their roles with dignity. They were right at home, and it was nice to see them with slightly different personas than their usual Hollywood routine which had made them so beloved.
